I’ve worked at pools. its about a half dozen times a summer at a fairly busy pool. pool gets shocked (extra chlorine) and then I forget how many hours and its good to go. oh and any chunks are netted out first. the lifeguards get a nice break.

You can probably avoid every pool if you’re scared of this ;)

    not so funnny/haha details

Btw, that “swimming pool” smell what is usually associated with bleach/chlorine is the smell of chlorine that breaks down organic compounds, so if it smells like that, it means it’s already processing urine/e-coli

I have heard that “fact” many times before, but when I once had to actually clean something with chlorine that I was positive didn’t have pee on it, it still smelled like swimming pool, so idk anymore if that is actually true.

And if it is justthe reaction with anything organic then you can’t really say anything about the pool because off course there will be some things organic in there like people.

The compound that is produced when Chlorine reacts with organic material is named Chloramine. There are several variants of this compound, Trichloramine is one of them, and particularly responsible for the characteristic smell and it causes irritation of the skin and the eyes.

People are swimming in the ocean. I guess every chlorinated piss pool is less concerning.

This is like the dead body theorem.

People won’t swim in a pool if someone shat in it.

But people will swim in the ocean knowing there is large amounts of shit in it. So there is some ratio of water to shit where people stop finding it acceptable.
