I’m not going to lie. I can’t keep up with all this. He’s CEO, he’s fired, he’s rehired, he’s not actually rehired, he now works at Microsoft. Talk about a crazy weekend
He was never rehired they were just having / arranging talks on the possibility
I have a lot more stock in Ilya Sutskever’s assessment than in either Altman’s or Nadella’s visions. I think the ouster was a good thing for OpenAI specifically and for AI in general.
I am not sure I trust Sutskever’s vision of closedness=safety but I say that the ability to do a move in the sake of OpenAI’s charter and in spite of huge financial incentives is certainly a strong point that gives me more confidence in them.
I was unsure until the outpouring of unprompted employee support for Altman. That speaks volumes to me. Very few teams I’ve been part of would have responded to their leader getting ousted that way.
What assessment?
Sounds like it ended in a logical way for everyone: those not worried about their new corporate overlord joined it the others stayed at OpenAI.
Microsoft is not willing to part ways with their former, and now future partner. Sam has allegedly interviewed most if not all of of the OpenAI hires since its’ inception.
I think keeping him in the AI space if beneficial for the field.This is the best summary I could come up with:
