A disgruntled Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Seige gamer who called in a fake emergency to Ubisoft’s Montreal office was sentenced this week to three years of community service, according to The Montreal Gazette.

I’m impressed that, even after being charged, he asked Ubisoft to unban his account.

Man… I am amazed how people can make false reports that endanger other’s lives and get such low punishment.

Maybe you should stop thinking about punishments for crimes?

Well you’re amazed at the low punishment, right?

But why? What good would a harsher penalty do?

Yes, they made a reckless move that could have endangered someone else’s life. Luckily it didn’t.

Now if we punish this person further, and lock them up for X years they’ve now become a burden on all of society and when they get out they’ll constantly be at a disadvantage (I.e. employment, housing, banking, etc), increasing the chances of them committing other crimes to survive.

Not to mention, it’s 99.99% safe to say this dickhead won’t be a repeat offender and committing this again, so yeah why think in terms of punishment?

Too much bad intent not to punish this behavior but I see your points also. But this is a big issue, people need to understand that others can get injured.

3 years of community service feels pretty light for a serious offense. Swatting has lead to deaths and we need to do more to treat it like the crime that it is.

“I have put over $1,500 in cosmetic enhancements in my profile.”

I don’t think anything can be done for this guy. He’s just hopeless.
