Here in Germany, we once had a hardware store called “Praktiker” which advertised their regular 20%-Off-sales with the slogan “20% on everything except pet food” (the joke was that they didn’t sell pet food).
We once needed a very specific type of screw for an old Fender Amp and went to Praktiker when they didn’t have their sale on, so we decided to come back when they resumed the sale again, which they did regularly. When we came back to the store, the screw would have been more expensive than before even with the “20% off” (which was a fucking lie). This opened my eyes to all black-friday-prime-day-whatever-day-sales from then on.
Keepa is great for Amazon. I think the price jacking before promo is not allowed by Amazon you may be able to report it. But it will likely not do anything.
What’s keepa
It’s a browser plug-in that displays a graph of the price history for a given product right on the Amazon page. Great to know if it’s the right time to buy or if you should wait for the price to change. Amazon prices change daily, sometimes hourly.
What the heck is a beep set plugin
Edit: looks like the commenter above was owned by his autocorrect. It’s a browser extension.
It’s autocorrect. Browser plugin

One of our jokes for pretty much every sale we see is: “20% off of 50% more”.
I’m not sure I follow. The day before, it was over $40. It was dropped for prime day (I assume that’s the end of the graph - 39.59) and then 20% taken off as a discount. The $31 sale price is lower than both used and new. What am I missing here.
Agreed. It doesn’t look like anything fishy after deciphering the graph. The normal price is usually 39.59 and it was indeed 39.59 before the sale and it’s now 20% off for 31.67.
A lot of these proce comparison sites are struggling with the sale, came camel camel has the same issues. It’s because the sale isnt universal, only for prime subscribers.
Is it 20% off it’s lowest price? No it isn’t. But it’s still lower than its lowest price.
Prices in Amazon fluctuate wildly. I have seen them be as much as 20% up or down in a matter of weeks.
They did raise the price the week before. Maybe Amazon already has practices in place to stop fake price hikes?
Yes, and I think I noticed a fair few that have no data on camel³ but I know I’ve seen the item before. So, you can’t see the history.
I don’t buy anything on these sales unless I can see the history and it’s a real cut.
Does camel camel camel do the same thing or is this different? I’ve never heard of keeps but am certainly interested.
From my understanding they provide the same price history service.
“Goes up like prices at Christmas” Motorhead
Yeah I bought a gamepad last week which I noticed is on sale at 37% off for the same price.
This is why they got rid of price zombie
Classic
Yeah and Google just announced they’re raising the price on their YouTube premium subscription. I’m going to cancel all of this shit I swear.
Prime Day May 24th – oops you missed it.
This kind of thing is straight up illegal in Denmark
