As someone with a factory job, I agree. Admittedly I have a degree, and I’m doing supply chain work in an office, but a 75k setup machinist or CNC programmer job is pretty good compared to spending 100 grand in student loans to make 75K as an office drone.
I wouldn’t advise anyone drop out of medical school to run a packaging line in a factory, but there are a lot of people who do pretty well. You land in a union shop or an ESOP and you can make real money.
There is, but there is a difference between not admitting you’ve broken a law and impeding an investigation into whether you broke the law or destroying evidence.
The particulars are going to be very important in this case. It’s also possible they have no case and they’ll just use the legal system to torture him, ruin his life, and waste his money then drop the charges before it ever sees a judge.

Writing screenplays. Movie scripts. At it’s most basic, you can write it in any text editor, and you can format it in markup.
But, because the formatting is very specific and there are a lot of ways a screenplay gets analyzed and parsed they’re mostly done in a dedicated software. The biggest and most industry standard is called Final Draft.

Writing fountain markup just doesn’t work for me. it’s hard to explain, and sounds precious, but if my brain is in markup mode it’s not in creative mode and vice versa.
Some of the ok ones from the past have been abandoned.
I bought a pro license of fade in which is supposed to be available for Linux but it won’t install and support didn’t solve it. So I have to work exclusively from my Windows machine… Which I don’t love doing.
Linux is still a difficult environment for creative work.
Not as large but still growing.
It’s even worse than that.
We are somewhere between 5 and 7 years into the problems with Roblox being well documented by everything from major media outlets to national governments. It’s well past the point of blaming nievete or ignorance.
Parents are doing a cost benefit analysis and speculating that their kid won’t be one of the victims. They are paying to put their kids in harms way because they see the high liklihood of social isolation or temper tantrums to be a greater problem than risk posed by Nazis, and groomers.
There’s no one thing. I’m sure everyone is trying to game regulations.
But, I’d wager a Honda Civic is not getting a truck exceptions. Yet a 2025 Honda Civic is 20% wider and 25% longer than a 1978. The weight has gone from 800 kilos to over 1400.
Crumple zones need space to crumple into. Side curtain airbags require bulkier pillars. Impact beams need space making bodies wider. Instead of a sheet metal box on a chassis we have a frame reinforcing the entire cabin. We need room for crushable hood braces and plastic engine shrouds for when we hit pedestrians. It’s all good stuff, but you have to buy an inch or two for this, an inch or two for that…
Eventually a 2025 Honda Civic is both longer and wider than a 1990 Toyota Hilux pickup.
American safety standards have led to an insane game of cat an mouse wherein I need my car to be bigger to keep me safe. But my bigger car is more dangerous to you. So you need a bigger car to protect yourself from my dangerously large car. But now I need a bigger car to protect me from your giant car.
And 30 years later everyone is driving around a 60 thousand dollar crumple zone so tall it can’t see pedestrians over the hood and needs a 6 liter engine just to move.
Same for child seats. Planning on having 3 kids under 10? Better plan on a truck or van with a 3rd row, because somehow, you can’t fit seats 3 small children in the back seat of a family sedan or crossover.
Or maybe can’t even see the copy. They may be looking at lorem ipsum.
Having worked with vendors in the print industry, I’m wondering if at least some of this is a scaling issue in the edit. Because the “tall and thin” type is exactly the same height as the rest.
Maybe there was a version that was more distinct, and a layout guy standardized them without seeing or reading the copy.
Maybe that’s too much benefit of the doubt.
Or the feral cats? Does humanity deciding to cull a species not perfectly fit that model as you imagine it?
The Venn diagram of privacy focused and paranoid has a good bit of overlap.
But anything private enough for the most paranoid dev is private enough for me.
There will always be some percentage of users that Linux just isn’t for, and some users that fall in love.
In my opinion the motivations that convince them to try Linux are irrelevant. What’s important is that the general trend is more users sticking with it.
IMO I couldn’t care less if people dual boot, we’re still have a use case for Windows. I have a Windows machine myself.
It would be ideal if everyone could take a step back and appreciate that it’s society against the problem of mental health, not the well vs the unwell.
But civility and humanitarianism are frail. They don’t hold up well against humiliation, disgust, or fear. Eventually the general public will opt for an inhuman solution over no solution at all.
Well that’s kind of what I’m getting at. How many times does that happen before everybody just goes back to using GPL, MIT, etc…
This probably comes up more than the muppet thing.
I’m all for ethical licensing, and defensive licensing, but we’ll likely end up with an unmanageable soup of various licenses that everyone is nervous about misinterpreting. We lose efficacy and everyone will just default back to the same handful of licenses we’re currently using.
I think unless it was a small number of crystal clear alternative licenses with broadly agreeable terms, we’d get chaos, followed by complacency.
It is a terrible headline. It can be debated whether it’s intentionally misleading, but if the debate is even possible then the writing is awful.
