Yeah… That’s fair. People gave DS9 shit for having a black guy as lead. Gave Voyager shit for having a woman as lead. Had a fucking meltdown over the black woman as lead. Then there’s all the other insanely petty stuff like people giving Tilly crap over her weight. Can’t look up Tilly GIFs on anything without seeing some insulting garbage. I don’t know. I met someone somewhat recently on Elite Dangerous and he was a big Star Trek fan. Then he started talking about some political stuff that was highly suspect. As in like “What, you like Star Trek because you think the Romulans were the good guys?” Only doubled down further with some truly despicable shit said about trans folks. Love how he had to clarify that gays “like me” are perfectly fine but said basically anyone LGBTQ+ should drown in tar.
