Cooking! I knew some basics, but it was only in my late thirties that I really had to learn, due to life. It’s a great skill to have!
Learning how to cook, decades ago, was a big change for me. It makes you more independent and more reliable for others, on a single stroke. And you don’t need to be pulling out fancy dishes to do it - learning how to cook everyday basic stuff is enough for most people, and relatively easy.
Same. Still barely scratching the surface
When you add your google account on your phone, it tracks every app you use, with a timestamp.(you can turn it off, but it’s more of a formality, they still track you) It can track your location, video and audio recordings of you as well.
I randomly found this out today, I feel like an incompetent idiot. I wasn’t aware of it, and I found data recordings dating back years, including calls made from maps and general areas seen on maps , calendar inputs not synced to google calendar.I might make a separate, more detailed post about this, I just don’t know on what instance to post it.

An app called Free Game Radar. Will give you a push notification when a store makes a game free (Steam, GOG, Epic, etc.).
Going off this, an app called Hot Stock. It will give you a push notification when a high demand / low stock item gets put back in stock. Things like games, consoles, computer parts, toys. I finally got a set of N64 Switch controllers.
Black holes. My son, out of the blue, became very interested in them. They’re quite cool and important.
Kurzgesagt on YouTube has alot of REALLY cool videos on space and black holes! My favorite is rhe black hole star! You won’t be disappointed if you check em out. Very educational, an entertaining! They got a merch shop with a lot of cool Black hole posters too!
How to make small talk. I’m extroverted but I absolutely suck at small talk/casual conversations with people. I’m still not great about it, but it can be as easy as asking expanding questions about anything they said.
Can you elaborate?
So like easy example - you see someone you’re acquainted with and say something like “hey how’s it going?” They’ll say something like “good man how are you?” And you say “good.” Conversation goes nowhere. That’s been me for a long time.
Instead, say something like “hey man how’ve you been what have you been up to lately?” Now you’ve given them an opportunity to say hi and actually tell you something. They may still answer shortly but they will probably give you enough to follow up. Example, “oh not much man, just hanging with the wife and kids, the usual.” But there - you have some things to dip into. 1) oh nice you guys got any trips planned? 2) what are the kids into these days, they like that (thing kids are into) that’s all the rage these days, or even 3) oh man how old is (kid) now?
I’m still not great at it but I’m much better at it than I used to be and trying to improve all the time.

You do not have to care what anyone else thinks of you. If you’re happy being yourself that’s all that matters.
How to be more social and smile. I wish I had learnt it as a small child.
