scrolling is excellent. some apps that have swiping gestures trigger swiping when I scroll an it gives me a headache.
-
the top right button on the feed page need some separation between them and the sized could be increased a touch.
-
when opening a comment, either from your profile or from inbox there’s no option to expand the full context or show all comments.
-
in the traverse tab it would be good to have along with subscribed ones (which I think it what it shows right now) have a tab for federated and All.
-
Move the account switcher from the top of the feeds tab to a long press on the profile tab.
-
Search, how does trending communities work? the “trending” communities have zero subscribers and no content (not sure if this is a bug or if this is the data that Lemmy provides to you, sorry if you have no control over it).
-
on the profile tab, have the default view be a combined posts and comments view.
-
can the community name on posts be a bit bigger and have option to include the favicon?
-
add more “sort by X” options like sort by top hour, etc
that all being said the app has been rock solid for it’s initial release. I unfortunately can’t review it because I’nm running beta software (iOS 17) but once it goes gold in September I’ll definitely be dropping a review on whatever version is out.
As a former Apollo user, there are two features I’m missing that I would love to see added in the future:
-
A jump to next comment chain button. Tap to jump down and hold to jump back. It makes navigating lengthy comments sections much faster.
-
I imagine this one is pretty hard to implement, but I loved being able to return to a page I just closed by swiping left from the right edge of screen in Apollo. It wouldn’t just take you to the post either, it would take you to the exact spot you were at, so if you were deep in the comments, you could jump right back in where you left off. This feature is so useful for swipe-based apps like Memmy where if you accidentally swipe out of a post before you were done reading, you could easily swipe back in.
- Currently in progress as we speak.
- Yea, I like the idea and it’s not as hard as you’d think. Not easy, but not impossible by any stretch.
I second point 2.
Also a way to have some subscribed communities not show in the main home. I can’t always watch sports live and don’t like getting spoilers before in can watch. Akin to the multi-Reddit.
I just want the feature to share with photos and comments like in Apollo where it screenshots it. It was my favorite feature

just though of another idea for the traverse tab. enter an instance url and it will show you all the communities in that instance.
I would love a way to see all the communities on an instance!
This is wonderful. Thanks for all of this :)
By the way:
2nd issue is fixed 3rd issue is fixed 6th issue i’ll look into because i’ve noticed this has gotten worse after the new version went live (18.1). Wondering if something change there? 7th issue was something I was doing mainly because the api was so unresponsive. For reference, you cannot ask for a combination nor can you ask for just one thing (comments, posts, etc). You must retrieve all records (posts, comments, plus all user data) which is a pretty significant chunk of data to be receiving. But it seems like these latest updates form Lemmy have really improved performance, so I think we can revist this. 9th issue is fixed
I’ll look into all the others as well.
And I know you probably get a bit tired of the “Apollo did this” or “add this Apollo feature”, but as a day one Apollo user memmy is bringing me back to the OG Apollo release. There’s a ton of potential here and I’m really excited.
Thank for the response! I just saw that the TestFlight fixed some of my issues. Looking for the App Store release!
I use Memmy for Ipad, I really am enjoying it.

found out quite late by accident : swipe left to upvote comment although swipe right to reply occurred naturally to me.
-
when sharing photo from Memmy to Signal, it shares .png links. Need to save to storage, go to photo album then share the photo.
Images are now shared instead of the link 👍
I’ve never gotten that to work. When I try, it freezes the app trying to download it.
Yea it’s a bug if you use compact view. It’s fixed in next build.
That’s exactly it. I use compact view. Weird that that effects the post when you open it. Thanks for the response!!

Overall I’m really enjoying at as well! I would love to see:
A way to see an instance and all the communities is has available. I can see lots of other instances on the “all” view, but I can only get to individual communities on those instances. Would love some sort of broader view. I’m new to Lemmy and still discovering new instances and communities and I think that would be a cool feature to help that process.
A way to block an entire instance (not one that my instance is defederated from) and not just individual communities. For example, communities from a German-language instance keep popping up, and I don’t read German. I would love to be able to block the whole instance instead of just one community at a time.
For the up/down vote icons to match what is actually available on a post. For instance, beehaw.org does not allow downvotes, so it would be cool if that icon didn’t show up for posts on that instance. Makes it easier to see if you can up/down or both on each post.
Just my thoughts. Big thanks to everyone working on this app, pretty cool so far!
All of these seconded!
I would love a way to have the ability to swipe to go back from anywhere on the screen. Apollo had it and it disabled the left swipe gestures but if I’m in bed sometimes it’s hard to reach the other side of the screen (first world problem I know).
Don’t you have a bug using second account ? When I select the account I made on programming.dev instance, I can’t search nor access to profile tab.
I was an idiot and didn’t go deep enough into the account section to add a new one.
for me both my accounts work fine when switching.
Some solid and really good thoughts and ideas in this thread. Hopefully the dev will pick them up and let us all know what he thinks.
