If you listen to podcasts on Youtube then consider if that podcast is available on Spotify. Even channels that are not podcasts, such as Epic History or Voices of the Past are available on Spotify.
The company that creates ai music of the artists on their platform so they do not have to pay royalties?
While there’s a ton of valid critique that can be directed towards Spotify, I’m not exactly on board with some of the other comments in here.
Competition to Youtube in the form of Spotify is absolutely far from ideal, I still fail to see how serious competition for a monopoly like Youtube can be bad though.
While I’d love to see alternatives like PeerTube to become a serious competition, I don’t think it’s anywhere close to becoming reality anytime soon. If in the meantime platforms like Spotify could become a serious competitioner to Youtube, it could potentially lead to improved quality and/or service improvements for consumers.
So yeah, I’d wish for something better but I also won’t be mad about a competitoner that could shake up things a bit when it comes to the monopoly position that Youtube currently holds.
I agree, competition for YouTube is hard to see as anything but positive. And I’m also struck by how one-dimensional many of the comments are.
Spotify has effectively been turned into a stand-in for the structural failures of streaming, while other Big Tech platforms escape serious scrutiny. That kind of selective critique is revealing.
At a cultural level, it’s fascinating: drop a few well-worn trigger terms into the conversation and bots barely need to do anything - humans complete the loop themselves. I suspect this period will be looked back on as an object lesson in narrative engineering.
Nobody needs another commercialized shithole like the youtube of today.
Bring back something like the pre google youtube and we can talk.
Until then I will keep avoiding it and limit my online media consumption.
Yeah, exactly what we don’t need!
HA!
Recently encountered a ton of Ai Playlists on Spotify
At this stage, if a podcast exists on Spotify then I will not listen to it on other platforms either (even if I liked it).
Then you’re not listening to Podcasts I guess.
Does Spotify really only host podcasts of people who put it there, or are they simply aggregating whatever and mirroring it?
If they display the Spotify logo anywhere, promote or mention that their podcast is on Spotify, or “all platforms” I unsubscribe. And yes, I’m having to unsubscribe from many of my favourites. But I’ve been reading more as a result (or “reading”, using text to speech with ebooks).
lol have fun with that. I personally hate music videos, they ruin the song by adding audio that has NOTHING to do with the SONG, then people start uploadign that version of the song places. I don’t want my music to start 60 after the track starts, I don’t want to hear live music either unless the crowd screaming is muted somehow… I want the audio, that’s it.
that said, my Spotify subscription is going to be cancelled anyways at the end of 2025. beyond sick of listening to music, then some random artists songs are injected into my playlist, some of which literally don’t exist. clearly ai garbage. no thanks… stop trying to tell me what to like. I don’t care what any company says. the albums I want are being saved, and the entire platform can frig off
I already use VLC in my car to play my mp3s.
