With only 78 mau accounts and 780 users in total. The friendica software has issues with scale.
Would be nice if they did a postmortem on their run. See where the costs are and help people not fall into the same traps.
That sounds insane. Which server provider are they using?
I just emailed them to see if I could help them keep costs down. I’m a software dev and run keyboard vagabond in addition to self-hosting things at home. We’ll see 🤷
That’s crazy. I wonder what needed so much spending.
I know that when the host costs for feddit.uk were looked into, standard cloud hosting was going to be significantly more expensive than a cheapie hetzner box.@Sunshine y’all asking to help, please look into funding/helping dev work… seems like there are fundamental issues with friendica and how it can’t handle some things…like lemmy. it overwhelms it with all the data points as it was intended for smaller groups not large communities… seems to like exponentially creates data…but i’m not a dev so …maybe talking some point wrong. but regardless, i love friendica and would love for this issue to be resolved…
PieFed is known for being extremely frugal about data, I wonder if that could be a viable replacement?
Like change the default settings to show content by New rather than Hot, just not federate with any other instances (I mean Lemmy or PieFed or Mbin etc.), and so on.
Their wallet must’ve been screaming.
