The Colombian Embassy is demanding answers from the Department of Homeland Security following the death of one of its citizens in an ICE-involved shooting.

Joan Sebastian Guerrero, who was from Bucaramanga, died Monday, a week after agents used lethal force on a Mexican national in Texas.

The Embassy said in a statement it has “requested information and clarification” from DHS “regarding the circumstances surrounding this lamentable death and will continue to follow the case closely as the investigation progresses.”

Biddeford Mayor Liam LaFountain also called for a transparent investigation that will determine what occured and whether the use of force was justified.

Maine Immigrants Rights Coalition said that Guerrero was authorized to work in the U.S. and lived with his wife and daughter.

The Embassy said it is in close contact with Guerrero’s family and U.S. authorities, and is closely monitoring the investigation.

Yesterday’s shooting spurred massive protests in the community, with some congregating outside Republican Sen. Susan Collins’ office to protest against her vote for funding ICE.
