from a steam review:
After countless teasers and 3 years of waiting, it is out! New story, new game mode, new mastery, and FINALLY affix transmutation (F to those who’ve spent hundreds of hours grinding ideal double-rare items for their builds), plus dozens of QoL updates and improvements. Perfect time to come back to my favorite ARPG to scream again
This is an excellent game with great itemization
Maybe even a bit too complicated itemization
You can respec for cold cash in town so dont worry. Lots of people go with a specific levelling spec for the first levels, then switch it up later when they get enough talent points etc
As far as i know almost all builds/specs are viable, though of course some require more specific gear then others
And i love those constellation point system!
Its been a few years since i played this old game, but i have played over 1000 hours 🥲
A decent Diablo-like hack and slash with addictive gameplay for sure. If you get it on sale, it’s worth it if you like the genre. It does have some bad design decisions.
The bad: even when you’re not in a dungeon, the map is always pathways, not open. This plus no quest markers and only one travel gate open at a time means you do a lot of mindless looking around for stuff and painful backtracking. The procedural equipment drops are tedious though they can be filtered. Their naming conventions are overly-verbose and terrible. The soundtrack gets repetitive.
The good: the game’s skills and trees make sense and make you can feel pretty OP if you give it some effort and thought. The crafting is actually useful and you get a generous amount of storage (that can be upgraded to ridiculous levels). The lore is deep and if you’re into that, there’s a lot of it and it’s fairly original.
They will never stop developing this game will they 😂 chase you bliss, kings
This is actually the last expansion for it.
They have said they’re doing Grim Dawn 2 but it’ll be quite a few years until it’s out (like 2030+). They’re working on an RTS set in Cairn (the setting of Grim Dawn) which they’ve developed their own engine for. While working on that they got the itch to do one last expansion for Grim Dawn. Once the RTS is done they’ll fork the engine to make Grim Dawn 2.
This is from an interview that Chris Wilson (of PoE fame) did with Arthur Bruno (CEO of Crate Entertainment who make Grim Dawn).
Once the RTS is done they’ll fork the engine to make Grim Dawn 2.
If they have any money left… RTS games aren’t exactly a safe bet these days.
I reckon they’ll be fine. Crate seems to be a very well run studio that so far (for 18 years) makes pretty sensible decisions.
They have no investors and they self-publish so there’s that too.
Do I need the other expansions to get this one?
ye. you need malmouth and forgotten gods
Usually pretty cheap though
