You may be missing just how skewed the information sources are for so many people. When their most trusted sources consistently weave the narrative that all the horrors of ICE are negative spin and lies, then it’s easier for those people to assume the real people and other news sources in their life telling them something closer to objective truth are parroting corrupted information. It isn’t until they see it in front of them, impacting someone they know for sure isn’t evil/a criminal/a threat, that they truly come face to face with the possibility that they were lied to by those they most trusted.
Yeah, but it has a different flavor when the “person who you trusted” is your trusted person because they are violent, careless, and a narcissist, but they just promise to take you with them.

We work so hard to pay the increasing rent and take care of ourselves and our families that we simply don’t have the time or energy to see outside the bubbles in which we live. We don’t go through the process of researching everything we hear on the news, so we’re easy targets for propaganda - especially now that it’s got algorithmic targeting to steer specific people in specific directions.
