I feel like this is the wrong approach. I don’t care about specific strength of steel or building codes. But I’d care if a building fell upon me. I don’t care about the effluent pump station down the road, but I’d probably care if shit started flowing out onto the street .
You can not care about upstream events or technologies. Mostly because you’re happy with the outcome, you never have to care or spare a thought. Most of life is like that.
I think we agree on this, but maybe I’m saying it in a way that seems counter to what I’m thinking. My point is Linux adoption only matters in terms of desktop because it’s the only time that the OS is actually important. 99% of people don’t care what kind of motor or brushes their Roomba has. They care it cleans the floor good. They don’t care it runs Linux. They care it’s smart enough not to crash into walls 24/7. But people do care what OS they directly interact with because it is the thing they’re directly interfacing with.
Maybe not, but surely the clouds’ infrastructure, the webservers, and the mobile phones matter to people…
