The extent of the negligence can be determined so severe that the prosecution may seek murder charges, even if there’s no intent to kill.
And the difference between voluntary and involuntary manslaughter really comes down to how the death occurred. Involuntary manslaughter is ‘I was negligent and left a baby near a pool and it drowned’ vs voluntary being ‘I was so angry that I punched my SO to death but I didn’t want to kill them’. In both cases you didn’t want the other party to die, but in one case you physically caused the death.
