Finished When Moon Hits the Eye by John Scalzi.
The book is divided so that each chapter is a new day, and it’s from perspective of new people. So there is no story of certain people, rather it’s about the “event” and we see things from different people’s point of view throughout the book.
I didn’t know that, so it took some getting used to, but once I had come to terms with that it was a very interesting book.
Highly recommended for soft sci-fi fans.

I read that trilogy a few years ago. The stakes really ratchet up after the first book. I have heard the 2nd trilogy is pretty good but I haven’t been compelled to check it out myself
