Toilet has lid for a reason, to cover it when not in use. I am constantly flabbergasted that more people don’t get that. Do they leave the mayo lidless in the fridge too because it makes it easier to make a sandwich??
The lid is only for blocking the toilet if you are about to risk dropping something in there accidentally. If you aren’t doing anything complicated in the bathroom or need to sit or stand on the lid for some reason, it’s just in the way.
Otherwise, keep the lid up and the seat down for quick access in diarrhea situations.
Oh, so you only close the lid before you have a specific type of accident? Having time powers must be cool.
Also, please for the love of all that is good in this world, do not stand on your toilet. The seat/lid is not attached that securely, you are begging to fall and break your neck. Get a small step ladder.

When i was very young, i was practicing my saxophone embouchure on my mouthpiece while i was going to the bathroom. When i flushed, i looked down at the water going down the toilet bowl, and my mouthpiece fell into the toilet and got flushed away.
I can’t go back in time, so ever since that day I’ve taken pains to remove the risk of things falling into the toilet, especially while it’s flushing.
One example is if i have to retrieve something from the cabinet on the wall above the toilet, i make sure the lid is closed first.
you realize you breathe in way more nasty nasty microparticles going outside for like 3 min that you do from your toilet flushing a couple of times a day? lots of fungus, bacteria, viruses, spores, etc.
your immune system exists dude. and it needs light exercise.
the only way aerosolized waste is making you sick is if you like go inside a sewer or waste disposal tank where it’s intensely concentrated, and it’s really the methane that’s doing you in, as the bacteria don’t float.
also your basic breathing through your nose and mouth is shooting out way more nasty shit that actually can infect other people. by paranoid logic we should all be using closed breathing systems at all times.
We keep the lids down on our toilets to keep the dogs and cats out of them. Never seen mold growing on them at all. We have plastic, slow-close lids though. Maybe regular lids are more prone to that?
My guest room has a rarely used toilet with a plastic, slow-close lid that is opened, at most, possibly twice a week. We recently had to replace it because it was very visibly moldy to a disgusting degree.
It’s true, the bathroom connected to our guest bedroom doesn’t get a lot of use. We keep that lid up with the bathroom door closed (to keep the cats out of the water) to avoid the mold. I’ve never encountered that problem on a toilet used even once a week though.
Everyone closes the lid completely when they’re done. Problem solved. Equality established. World peace flourishes.

the flushing throws piss (& occationally poop) water particles into the air that can spread to things like toothbrushes
You’re right, i do close it to flush a poop. I don’t to flush a pee.

That’s what I do but my sister said it can evidently grow mold on the seat cover if you don’t use it for a few days :(

Yeah I think only if we’re out of the house for extended periods of time.
My wife and I just have separate bathrooms. We’re both nesters, so sharing wasn’t working.
