Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers may soon be outfitted with gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks intended to gain compliance from combative individuals.

ICE plans to spend up to $20 million to purchase thousands of “conductive distraction and de-escalation devices” for officers and agents by March, according to a notice published Monday by the Department of Homeland Security.

The devices are known as the G.L.O.V.E.[1], which stands for Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter, and are manufactured by Compliant Technologies LLC of Lexington, Kentucky. They have been used in recent years by some jails and police departments.

DHS said Tuesday that it was working on a response to an Associated Press inquiry and offered no immediate comment. Jeff Niklaus, the founder and CEO of Compliant Technologies, wrote in an email, “Unfortunately, we are unable to speak on this subject.”

The notice said the solicitation for a no-bid contract could be published as early as Friday.

How long until they accidentally kill someone (perhaps someone with a pacemaker?) with these?

    Also useless in winter months…

… in place of lethal weapons, right?

    Look, I can dream, okay?

Anyway, these gloves seem easily defeated by a bottle of water.

A pool noodle can be lethal if you choke someone out with it. These aren’t tasers, but tasers are generally considered a nonlethal or less than lethal option.

Does that mean they won’t decide to choke someone out with the gloves while sending electricity directly into their throats? No, ICE goons are murderous idiots.

Taser has covered up a lot of deaths. The majority of which the police officer in question didn’t expect. It’s a weapon that kills people frequently.

The body count is over 1000 at this point.

You can absolutely kill with a taser. I don’t believe I ever claimed otherwise, nor does that have a lot to do with the gloves in question.

I’d still love to see the guns replaced with these gloves. We all know that isn’t going to happen, though. They’ll just use the gloves to torture people on the ground while shooting bystanders now.
