I find it odd that they focused on standalone compute alongside a novel streaming function (foveated streaming) when the two are mutually exclusive in gaming use.

Because translating x86 to ARM will kick Microsoft while they’re already down. This is just the justification to the means.
Especially when they want to sell it alongside the Steam Machine.
