Brits will be encouraged to store water and tinned foods as part of the government’s new emergency preparation planning campaign.

No we haven’t, no one said anything about that, stop posting sensationalized rubbish.

Not yet, but the Guardian is also reporting this: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/aug/25/uk-to-warn-citizens-to-stock-up-on-food-amid-threat-from-climate-crisis-and-hostile-states

So they use the emergency alert system to tell us it’s hot outside and not to set fire to things yet are keeping quiet about announcing the end of the world?

I’m not saying it’s not true or even a good idea necessarily, but these are news reports about a warning that hasn’t happened and hasn’t been given. You can’t have a news article that says the government might do something, of course they might do something, but they also might not, so why don’t we wait until they actually do the thing before writing about it?

More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
