The 36-year-old New York representative and one of the country’s most prominent democratic socialists renewed her membership in the group’s national organization after reports emerged earlier this month that it had lapsed. Ocasio-Cortez initially joined the group in 2018.
In a statement on Tuesday night, the DSA announced: “Democratic Socialists of America confirms Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a member in good standing of our organization, having recently rejoined in August 2026,” according to a report in City & State New York.
It added: “Previously, the representative joined DSA in 2018 with a one-year membership, which DSA’s national leadership recently noticed had lapsed, in 2019. She has since renewed her membership as of this month.”
The DSA said it decided to disclose Ocasio-Cortez’s membership details amid reports that she could run for president in the next election cycle.
She’s a politician, and she’s had a taste of power. It will be very difficult for her to give up that power. She’ll do ANYTHING to hold on to it, believing, as they all do, that power is better off in her hands, than in someone else’s’.
My hope is that she’s listened carefully to Bernie and learned from him. He’s one of the very few, perhaps the only one in Congress, who stayed out of the trap.
As far as letting her membership lapse, who knows? My guess is she was biding her time, seeing which way the wind blows. Voters are warming up to socialists at the moment, and she sees a chance to make that party work for her, so she reupped.

I remember the pole for Hong being up 20 points and that was BS, she lost. Cherry picked stats doesn’t make it so.
A couple of things. First, it’s poll. If you can’t get something as basic as that right, people won’t take you seriously.
Second, it wasn’t Hong that “cherry picked” polls. It was a polling company that didn’t show their methodology and then claimed that they were actually running a social experiment. Something you would know if you were a serious person.

First of all, who cares about a single POLL regarding a single candidate? I guess if you live there it could be important to you personally, but folks are looking at national trends and you keep being all… Nope, can’t be, did you see the results of this one POLL in this one place at this one time?
So how do you know that it could only have been the DSA affiliation (that ain’t even obvious from looking at just her name) that cost her the election rather than sexism or racism? Or a combination of factors mostly relating to specific policies she or her opponents ran on? Or money? Like, what data are you drawing that conclusion from?
