Yeah, but the corporate media is whipping up intergenerational warfare, recycling sentiments behind slogans like “don’t trust anyone over 30” (oh, the delicious irony) so we all must take the bait and grumble about “boomers” as if they are monolithic set of people…and tacitly support policies that will harm anyone that is not a centimillionaire+ in assets.
Why is revenue never the solution? It’s always spending cuts.
Yes. There is a cap on SS collection, and it’s ridiculously absurd. But the Bezos Post thinks that SS is “out of step with modern [1] times” because of how unnamed countries supposedly do means testing. Means testing just being an old favorite of the conservatives…
[1] I’d love for the author to define “modern” here and how it has any bearing on things like this. Modern is just one of those purr-words that flies right under the radar when making bad faith arguments.

We in Gen X always had suspicions that we going to get fucked on things like SS and had little belief there would not be a rug-pull later on, largely since baby boomers were such a large generation and people were living longer and so on. Also, the economy was looking pretty bleak when a lot of us started our careers.
But also because the devious little conservatives of all ages have kept up this drumbeat of trying to kill it using bad faith bullshit arguments and deceptive terms like “ponzi scheme”, all while ignoring how it gets funded.
Without reading the article, title sounds like Jeff Bezos (who owns that site) wants to take away people’s pensions to cover debt
Start with the fucking Republican crime spree stealing all our money.
I hate that some of the “solutions” proposed are also about having people have to wait longer to collect on their benefits, all while intergenerational warfare is being stoked, with one of the conclusions being that people should be forced out of work even sooner than they already are. Oh, sure, there are supposedly rules against ageism, but corporations have a habit of concocting some paper trail that matches what they need it to.
And now it’s become en vogue to make this a national conversation aimed at politicians that someone has decided are arbitrarily “too old” because, well, reasons. Not because of their track record. It’s only going to get worse at the workplace now, so that’s wonderful.
Which is all so cool: so now people might get a decade or more of time where they a) cannot work because of some idiotic idea that they are not capable of it and b) cannot collect entitlements.
And the so-called “liberal media” gives these kinds of narratives a huge boost. It’s all so fucking stupid. What they should be boosting is the fact that this so-called “crisis” is just as easily remedied as the supposed similar “crisis” that was created within the Post Office, too.
