The parent you’re responding to specifically said ‘disc’ golf…which is a bit different than traditional golf –
1 - it’s usually in parks (that are being maintained, but probably not watered…at least around here, I don’t think any of our parks have an irrigation system…they are all just climate-appropriate land-/hard-scaping), or literally “in the woods”…the courses I’ve been on have been through nature trails, or sections of woods that were cleaned up (mostly of underbrush, saplings, and low branches).
2 - It’s more fun to walk around and play stoned. In fact, I think that you have to be stoned to play in an actual league game. It’s practically written into bylaws.
3 - Less professional socializing/networking. Mostly because everything about it is the antithesis of office culture.
I feel like golf is a networking opportunity first and sport second
It’s also just an excuse to walk around (stoned) on some nice grass
