Testing 100 companies found privacy requests often led to confusion and dead ends.
This should have been the first sentence. Maybe the majority of companies were confused because of what the AI wrote. Maybe it made mistakes tracking in the spreadsheet. The whole article became unreliable.
In accordance with WIRED’s policies, I am disclosing that I used generative AI to draft bureaucratic emails and update my tracking spreadsheet as part of this report. I wrote the body of this article mainly by hand in my scratch notebook.
I’ve requested my shopping returns data, twice now, I only get “we’re working on it” in reply.
I recall Bezzel’s OSINT podcast (way back before he disappeared and deleted his archive) talking about this. You can ask for this data, but in reality you will likely never receive this data.
