I think it makes a pretty satisfying sound. When you first drop it on the ground it makes a gentle, “clink” sound. When you sit on it it kinda rustles a little.
Then it doesn’t really make much noise when you shift around, unless you rearrange the pillow significantly. Once it conforms to your seat it kinda just holds its shape.
Some traditional Japanese pillows use(d) them, which is where I first learned of them. They’re also great because you can remove or add more hulls based on how thick or malleable you want the pillow to be. Highly recommend them.
TIL about buckwheat husk filling in pillows.
I really like it, stays cooler longer, is firm but also conforms to the shape of your head and neck a bit
What normal pillow filling texture would it compare to?
Imagine the conformity of memory foam with the firmness of dry rice, and you’re in the ballpark. There’s not really a 1:1 comparison.
It might sound weird but it is super comfortable. It needs to be pretty full though, if it’s under-stuffed then it just lacks the support.
What about the sound it makes you move on it?

Beanbag chair…ish. it’s not really close to anything else. In fact I think some beanbag chairs are filled with buckwheat husks.

It’s common in traditional meditation cushions. It gives you a firm seat while still conforming nicely. There’s nothing else like it, honestly.
