    Ok, so he has had 9 years to figure out that he needed a citizenship?

    Ok, as a Swede, I will absolutely agree that the government is often terrible at actively informing people about new rules, you have to actively contact the authorities and ask.

      I mean, the article says

      as he described his near seven-year struggle to remain in the country.

      Seven years ago is just about when the withdrawal agreement went into effect, so it doesn’t seem like it took him too long to figure out anything.
