This Venezuela deal is just the latest example: The president has marinated his brain in an insane fantasy that he is an effective leader. It would all be funny if we didn’t have to live through it.
And when you have almost half of America believing that shared delusion…
He has dementia. They’ve known he’s got dementia since his first term.
Every day that passes without the 25th Amendment being invoked, Article 2 Section IV of the US Constitution being invoked, or articles of impeachment being filed is a day that every sitting member of Congress announces their complicity in subverting American Democracy.
Every day that passes without the American public taking to the streets in protest is a day that every American citizen announces their complicity in allowing their nation to no longer follow the rule of law.
Every day that passes with your nation doing business with the USA and using the US dollar for oil and trade proves your complicity in the machine as you feed the beast that no longer follows the rule of law.
There may be a few true believers among them. Would not surprise me if Marklar Mikey Johnson really believed that. He’s the one with that weird porn spyware on his and his son’s phone.
But the grift is always part of it in either case, and plenty of them know that their idiotic unhinged base absolutely believe that little-d donnie was put there by their god.
I think even if we had it, so much privileging of crazy beliefs would continue to leave this kind of thing untreated.
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’”
–Asimov
It’s so weird how differently things like athletics vs. expertise of the intellectual kind are treated in this country. You can say things like “elite athlete” unironically and that won’t really provoke resistance against that.
People that think they can out-sportsball an elite athlete are viewed by most as utterly delusional, because they probably are.
But when so many of my fellow Americans see an expert on some scientific topic, they’ll sneer and grumble about “elitists” and how we don’t need experts, we have “common sense”.
They get stuck at the stage after right/wrong thinking, both sides have merit, but don’t continue to grow and use critical analysis to weigh which is better for humanity, or profit, however they judge what is good.

Hilarious that you think I’m not American.
Hilarious that you think that I thought you were from any country.
I’m not writing to you as an individual, gentle soul. It doesn’t matter where you are from.
Many in Congress think he was put there by the god from the Hebrew bible, to do the work of their god.
Not a single one really believes that bullshit. They’re just liars and con artists too.

Yes. Rampant untreated mental illness is a consequence of not having universal health care.

Quite sanctimonius. I am sure your country is perfect though, no need for you to follow your own mandates for us.
I love it when people tell on themselves with their assumptions. Projection ain’t just for the cinema, buddy.
