The American electoral system just doesn’t work that way. That is a steaming shit sandwich, but… sitting out the election or voting 3rd party because you’re pissed (rightfully so) is like headbutting a goat. It hurts you more than it hurts the goat and the goat doesn’t care or change it’s behavior. The goat in this case is 100% the collective body of American Democratic voters and the assholes who run the DNC. They will NOT care. They will learn all the wrong lessons. They are old and out of touch and they pull to the right every time they lose.

It works the other way around too! Voting is trying to drag the goat by her lead and she doesn’t care or change her behavior that way either.

Every cycle the DNC moves 5 steps right, but they’re the lesser evil so they move 5 more steps right. Everyone keeps rewarding them for marching rightward than shocked Pikachu that they won’t do anything about anything.

Of course nobody blames the dems for not listening, or even Republicans for yknow the christofascism - It’s always the lefts fault. Pay the lip service to Trump than it’s diatribe after diatribe about how leftists who get told to eat shit constantly for SOME REASON don’t like the mid right milquetoast genocider they put up.

Agreed. You can have a stubborn goat who won’t change or White Jesus with an AK-47 riding a dragon, leading a glorious army to put women and transpeople back in their place. It’s a STUPID choice, but there IS a right answer.

Actually… great! Tell me how. Tell me your plan. Tell me your end game. Tell me what you plan to do about all the gleeful idiots who want to watch the goat die and then shoot you in the back while they pray to Trump and Jesus?

Again, also not advocating for anything. We ARE just talking about goats.

The BLM uprisings were a revolutionary moment that we let slip through our fucking fingers because we weren’t organized.

We can’t let that happen again. There will be another chance and we have to be ready for it. The struggle against genocide is still ongoing as the genocide gets worse up and inflation is still pretty bad, once summer comes around things could start happening very fast. Learn a second language, make lots of friends, learn to shoot a gun, and prepare to embed yourself into the infrastructure like a guerilla tick.

I expect this to be the lowest turnout election in history and no matter who wins they’ll have basically zero legitimacy, and the loser is definitely going to contest the results and delegitimize it even further. The time for playing pattycake with goats is over.

I basically agreed with everything you say here… Except that I think the fascist right is scary organized and well-funded compared to anything going on on the left… And the goat is the only thing standing between them and everything that they want.

The goat hasn’t done anything for the anti-trans legislation being passed in red states, the goat hasn’t done anything for the increasing violence against migrants and refugees, and the goat has decided it loves genocide so much that it would rather lose than stop the genocide.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the ones with the power to stop this.

No, I want you to vote AGAINST the insane vampires. Stop thinking of the US electoral system as something where you vote FOR somebody. We haven’t had an option that truely represented us in literal lifetimes. You have a button for bullshit as usual and you have a button for “FUCK WOMEN, FUCK TRANS PEOPLE, FUCK IMMIGRANTS, HAHAHAHAH JESUS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS BABY.” If you DON’T push the first button… that IS in fact a reality fail and LOTS of vulnerable people will suffer for the sake of your principals.

Sweet. So join me and do the bare minimum, do not vote for genocide. It’s easy, there are 2 parties who love genocide, and lots of others who don’t. So pick one of the ones who doesn’t. It’s the least you can do.

So you are given the choices “vote to support genocide by big bully 1”, “vote to support genocide by big bully 2”, or “vote to oppose genocide”, you bitch out to the bullies, and call that power?

Cowards like you don’t deserve a vote.

I voted 3rd party in 2016. I regret it all the time.

On the issue of genocide, the vote is between more or less. Voting 3rd party, Republican, or abstaining is a vote for more genocide.

The moral high ground and smugness is worthless compared to less genocide, abortion, education, trans lives, healthcare, etc.

You are throwing away your little power by further entrenching the two-party system. It’s telling that you won’t even do the barest of minimums for possibly beginning to make things better through the official system we have.

It costs you nothing, and yet you still won’t do it.

Look around. The two party system is entrenched. It’s rooted.

As long as we have an electoral college and a first pass the post system, This will not change no matter how many times you throw your vote away. You don’t have to like it, I personally hate it, but it’s real and present and with us and it’s winning.

What would change this? Ranked choice voting? National popular vote? You know who’s never ever ever going to change those things? Republicans. Not ever.

The system actually uses third parties to blunt the power of the far right and the far left. Don’t take my word for it, just look at election outcomes and the media and follow the money. This is massively backfired, because the far right has seized control of the Republican party. THAT is the cause of the Democrats pulling farther and farther right every year.

Voting third party is not a service, it doesn’t do anything. It gives you an illusion. It’s a comforting drug. I can’t stop you from indulging it, but I’m sure as hell never going to join you in it again. I did that in my younger days when I didn’t understand what was going on.
