        I assume that electricity price sometimes goes negative when excess is produced, resulting in some providers paying you for using electricity at that time.

            It’s precisely that. The winds blows and the sun shines, then suddenly the power company would rather pay their customers to use more power than pay the generators penalty fees to turn off.
