Tati Bruening performing as Contact Sports, Roseland Theater.

I think this one’s the best of the concert photography I had done recently. The smoke machine made for a bit of a challenge to shoot through, and this shot certainly isn’t good enough for my portfolio, but it’s good enough I could put it out here.

Thanks for seeing my work!

Dude, your shadows and the lines of white look like they were drawn on. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

Edit: Also, I’ll try and add others if I can. I’m not familiar with your account.

Edit 2: Which one are you most proud of?

Here is my opinion, and my opinion only. I like the concert pic even better and here is why. Note: I do see why you like the other one better because of your goals, but I feel that the concert pic is more artistic and quite beautiful. Not many pics make me go whoa when I first see it.

            • It looks like an accidental renaissance painting.
            • the focused light in the foreground and the misty background
            • the white lines give a hint of other things back there and as I said, look like they’re drawn on.
            • the composition is elegant and follows the artist’s golden rule
            • it’s an action shot that looks almost posed, but not quite.
            • the colors (although, I know how hard it is for your fav pic to keep those night time colors)

Again, I’m telling the truth that I love this pic more than the first 20 on your profile and the one you chose as your fav. My guess is that you’re not a fan of master’s style works.

Alright, that’s fair. I really should try to silence the critic inside of me, she keeps art from getting out.

I’ll add something else, to me it’s about the subject itself.

Obviously she’s gorgeous, but the way she looks absolutely captured in that creative focus, consumed by her passion for what’ she’s crafting, oblivious to even the existence of a world around her, its so hauntingly beautiful… Like something private that I shouldn’t be seeing, or that is so rare that I’m blessed to see it.

The shadows, the smoke, the contour - all of it play into this mysterious, even slightly mistique experience in a place one wouldn’t expect it.

You were there, and certainly it was loud and dynamic and you were in a different state of mind.

For us, we’re just seeing this fixed image, and the lack of context let’s the mind fill in these details and make it more than what, to your eyes, it is.

At least that my take on it. Beautiful photo.

Very true, a good picture of someone fully in the process of crafting something has a particular beauty to it even when one isn’t attracted to the subject.

I’ve long felt there’s something holy in nightlife, and this picture kinda draws out that feeling. The smoke reminiscent of early morning fog borrows its etheriality. And her look of devoted focus almost brings to mind hagiographic portraiture where the subject is entirely focused away from the viewer. She also just kinda looks like a priest in the process of blessing eucharist.

Do you mean that feeling, sometimes, where everything feels… strange? Like it’s familiar but somehow alien, intangible - just a little bit eerie but incredibly fascinating, like it’s not a part of the same “real world” that one experiences during the day…

No idea if anime is your cup of tea, but I felt that “Call of the Night” did a great job of capturing that feeling of the night in some of its early episodes.

Whereas that one feels technically impressive, this one I love. Different tastes I suppose.
