Didn’t they also have a deal with google and now regret it because people are just reading the AI result in google search instead of visiting the actual reddit link?
OPENA/chatgpt recently started using reddit less and less, on thier references so there was a drop in traffic, thats why reddit panicked and started forcing the logins, they need new actual users to generate content, and not AI slop. Banning people left and right last year dint help them at all. and now people are afraid to login and lurk instead, they are tyring to force lurkers to login to an account to use.
i was on another forum, and the people that use spamming(for thier own businesses) is starting to have to make “genuine” content to fly under the radar of reddits filters.
You can’t even view actual reddit links anymore, at least not on mobile. It lets you view the page for a couple seconds and then tells you to login or switch to the app.
Firefox with the Redlib Redirect addon is a workaround on Android.
it sitll works mobile firefox, with the old reddit extension app, also if you sinkit or yeoldreddit extension it eliminates that. but reddit has been forcing page reloading even in oldreddit. i only use mobile reddit for lurking and nothing more.
