We have no descended into barbarism. We’ve always been here. Either rounding up a demographic to imprison, murdering and torturing people while justifying it or stealing and looting the hard work of regular citizens.
Well, yes. The oligarchs of the US have systematically been dismantling the education, social security, public services and other systems that have helped to keep them in check. One can hope that this time the consequences are so dramatic and so visible that even decades from now people can point back and ask each other if this is what they want again.
The problem I see is that MAGA, rather than being an anomaly, is just the latest manifestation of our decades long descent into barbarism.
