Forget sleepmaxxing and cold plunging: smoking is the new lifestyle flex among AI researchers.

At least, that’s according to Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar, who said some AI researchers are taking up smoking to signal their belief that AI will eventually cure cancer.

“So many AI researchers have started smoking as a way of signaling to other researchers how much they believe in AI,” Sankar said in an interview on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

What about all the other side effects of smoking? Smoking ages you prematurely, as well. Are they thinking age reversal is that close?

Also, are they upping their intake of meat, eggs and dairy? What about drinking more alcohol? What about overeating in general, including lots of sugar?

Honestly, I think there may be some reasons for hope on many fronts when it comes to health breakthroughs. But I think engaging in extremely risky behavior in the meantime is…quite the take.

It’s like the people that look at climate change and figure…fuck it, someone will figure out carbon capture and some geoengineering techniques, so it’s all gas no brakes, baby.
