Ryzen is a generic brand, when Zen is the architecture family.

It’s also good to know that they haven’t taken any VC money (they are currently relying on public funding).
Alphane Moon@lemmy.worldOPMto Hardware@lemmy.world•Real Stagnation: Six Years of GeForce RTX 60 Class GPUs TestedEnglish3·16 小时前The 5060 is not that bad of a SKU, albeit the comparison relative to 4060 is misleading, in many cases the 4060 shows a mere ~10-15% gen on gen improvement relative to the 3060.
The biggest issue is the price. It’s supposed to be $300 (excluding taxes?) in the US, but where I live it’s over $400 (full out of pocket price).

Perfect approach to regain their leadership position in semiconductor design and manufacturing!

That’s a really bad outcome. To be fair, Google itself doesn’t seem to be directly involved (although they had to have known about this limitation).

I guess we are sort of on the same page then. :)
Alphane Moon@lemmy.worldOPMto Hardware@lemmy.world•Asus showcases a $500,000 RTX 5090 ROG Astral GPU in China with 5kg of goldEnglish5·2 天前That is so true, it doesn’t even look nice.
Not to mention there is no cool technology that is unique to this SKU (redundant sub-systems, high quality materials etc.).
I have no issues with LW (and most other instance). I mod/curate multiple communities on LW.
I definitely do not intend to “run down” LW (if I am understanding the meaning of “run down” correctly).
Alphane Moon@lemmy.worldOPMto Hardware@lemmy.world•Asus showcases a $500,000 RTX 5090 ROG Astral GPU in China with 5kg of goldEnglish131·2 天前The GPU shroud is made up of 5kg or 11 pounds of pure 24-karat gold, upping the weight of the GPU to 7.2kg or 15.9 pounds. To put things into perspective, most RTX 5090 GPUs weigh anywhere from 2.5 to 3.0 Kg, making Asus’s newest showcase GPU 3 times heavier.
Why would you ever want a ~7 kg GPU, this makes it objectively worse than a regular high-end 5090. They could have used minimal gold coating and diamonds to keep the bling factor while maintaining a more reasonable weight.
Also it doesn’t seem there are any true product benefits over the ROG Astral RTX 5090. For such a price, I would expect them to source the best binned GPU chips on the planet and other unique features.
Definitely. I’ve been on the Threadiverse for a while now.
The problem is that ML is such a prominent instance and the lead devs are degenerate tankies.
And I don’t use the word degenerate lightly or as a generic insult.
Claiming (without irony) that North Korea is good place to live and their political system has been discredited by a vast capitalist conspiracy led by the BIA is a sign of true degeneracy. It doesn’t even matter if they are engaging in demagoguery or not.
Alphane Moon@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.world•What do y'all recommend as an arch based distro?English1·2 天前I was indeed refering to the rolling release nature of Arch-style distros.
Having every update be a potential system breaker is not in any way user friendly, nor is it a user friendly experience to have to audit updates.

Is this USB Cassette drive for retro vibes? Why not just have a USB flash drive? Am I missing something?
And it’s liquid cooled too!
Interesting commentary about the cost recovery approach to operating this supercomputer.
I have a Raspberry Pi 4B. Clients can directly play the media without any need for realtime transcoding. I could 4K transcoding being challenging for older Raspberry Pi SBCs.

You most definitely can.
But that doesn’t change the fact Lemmy’s devs are a bunch of degenerate tankies.

Didn’t think such a “dirty” method of moving from Lemmy to Piefed would work
I would even go as far speculating that Nvidia is not even going to bother with hardware changes. Especially considering AWS (and other cloud providers?) have mitigation approaches.
