  • Wasn’t my cup of tea personally but off top of my head the US sitcom The Middle is pretty solidly working-class focused, or at least from what I remember. Also thank you for putting this to words, I feel the same way.

This is exactly why I hated live-action Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows/movies growing up in the 2000s starting with Hannah Montana.

I was never able to articulate why I was repulsed by those series and was considered a contrarian little weirdo, lol. /rant

  • It’s those times where I shorten my response to something like “thanks I’ll keep that in mind” or “I appreciate you trying to help” and then brush it off/not follow that advice, because it usually comes from people who at least sort of care but have no idea what to say or how to fix the situation.

If someone genuinely wants to invest in helping your situation they’ll ask and be open. For me most of the time my answer is “you being there is enough” and when I tell them I don’t expect them to have answers to my problems they relax too.

If it’s randos trying to be argumentative or dismissive then they can go sit naked on a cactus. /tangent

TL;DR: You’re right, but it’s an onslaught and you deserve peace of mind. You aren’t obligated to defend yourself to them.

  • If the current Israeli government(+) wanted people to believe what they say instead of getting their jollies via military occupation and genocide they’d have ramped up humanitarian aid to Palestinians and taken every measure possible to protect them instead of, well, gestures broadly.

(+)Obviously the founding of Israel as a nation state and the history since has been horrific, point being made is largely rhetorical.

  • Dunno what type of tablet you’ve got but Apple News is pretty solidly loaded with medical fear mongering that’s sanewashed via being from interviews with “experts.”

Buzzfeed, Newsweek, HuffPost, etc. are your main name-brand culprits. Other magazines/websites also push this garbage but it’s a little more obvious.

Other key words across social media would probably be “nutritionist,” “coach,” “guru,” and other catchy terms that basically mean unlicensed. I’ve never used TikTok but when I was on Instagram years ago those were the biggest offenders.

  • Post-latest-US-election, when the feeds got somehow even worse and more doom-scrolly than before even on my curated lists. This was still before people were getting banned for upvoting comments.

Someone posted open source alternatives and while I was never big into Mastodon or other social substitutes I found Lemmy as a parallel to Reddit and eventually made the jump. Haven’t looked back since and am far mentally better off for it 😄 /genuine

  • There’s very little in the article to indicate imminent demise. A few valid complaints, yes.

Games should be supported across all platforms but the article did not mention a viable alternative for Mac based gaming.

Extraneous launchers are an issue, but I’m not sure what Steam could do for that when they’re the storefront, not the developer.

The article also expresses a concern for continued dominance as a platform so it goes against the title as well.
