  • It is not “pointless nitpicking”. It is very important holding fast against allowing very determined forces of hate any foothold whatever.

    I argue 3 things:

    1. Irrespective the truth value of your claim you should not forward that position as there are forces of oppression who will latch onto any conceit of inherent differences between cis and trans people and claim that is the oh-so-important difference around which they claim the need to organize the oppression they are rabidly looking for excuses for
    2. Your claim is not true under the commonly understood nor scientific consensus of what “sex” is
    3. Even under your claim—which I consider simplistic and reductive—that sex is mere reproductive capability via sperm or eggs your assertion remains false

    although it can be lost

No one “in casual conversation” considers someone “sexless” when they lose their gonads to cancer, nor do you know the “sex” of anyone to whose sex you have referred in going on high-90s percent of cases by your ridiculously narrow definition—I can’t imagine in those cases where you find yourself considering using either term you jam the person with a needle or jerk them off into a cup and bust out a microscope to check motility.

Finally I’m not sure what you hope to gain by your pedantry—they’re never gonna let you into the car.

  • I’ve been watching it again, I had the impression Steve stopped doing drag cause he married Mimi and whatever reasons came up from that.

Yeah, I think that might have been the implication, but they still should have addressed how first off that’s a fucked thing to ask of someone and if they went that way they should have at least addressed how it was a very big deal for Steve to make that adjustment for her and not just dropped that aspect of the character in later seasons. In addition to questioning why Mimi had a problem with it.

It put out in the viewing audience how you can just request Queer people quit doing queer things and they can or should respond with “Okie!”` .

  • And they were surprisingly progressive about it, too.

I need to rewatch the series before "10-4"ing that (at the very least the fact that what should be a major part of someone’s self conception was treated as a thing which could be dropped without issue or comment is troubling.)

Totally remember when Oswald got boobs though. That sort of thing plants some seeds, I tell ya. (“If you had a hand on your head we’d want to shake it.”)

Drew’s character also got civil union’d before anyone in his country could get gay married as I recall, but again I’ll need to rewatch how that was handled prior commenting.

I do remember taking issue with some of the social structures reinforced in some of the show’s humor, such as Drew looking up the definition of sexual harassment, " ‘Any unwelcome sexual advance.’? that’s every sexual advance I make!" I viewed that more as making light of sexual harassment than self-depreciation on Drew’s part.

I don’t personally care for Drew Carey—the sort of asshole who supports Ron Paul—and haven’t since he told a joke in 2003, “My girlfriend’s a Democrat; well… she hasn’t actually come out as a Democrat but she’s always bitching.” despite allegedly being critical of the united states invasion of Iraq himself.

Some of the company he keeps I fuck with so heavily it’s not like I’m calling on his canceling. He’s just that friend you wish would be a better person (and stop voting for Garry Johnson).
