Won’t disagree with you there, I was just explaining why he’s put on such a pedestal. It’s not uncommon for the most well known people in an art to not be the absolute most talented people doing it; unfortunately talent alone almost never brings people success.

I mean Seinfeld was fucking huge. It’s hard to overstate how big a hit it was in its time. And he was co-creator, the lead role, and obv his name is the name of the show. How could you not see people putting him up as one of the greats?

I’m not personally the biggest fan of his particular style of comedy, and you can certainly find issue with his personality and behavior over the years, but the man knows how joke structure works. He’s an expert in his craft. And you may not think he’s as good as some of his contemporaries, but there’s no denying he’s more of a household name than most if not all of them.

Which is exactly why I called my local election office, and I even mentioned it might have been because of the rain we were having, but I was told no, it wasnt the damp that caused it because they had confirmed with the factory that sent the ballots out that some had been sent out like that. They then told me to tape it and when I was hesitant because I had the same thought as you they told me they had checked several times with the registrar that taping them up was what to do. They said it was a known issue so it would be accepted.

A lot of the virginia ballots were mailed out with the return envelopes already sealed up. I called the election office and they said to cut them open and just seal them back with tape 🤣

Edit: to all the folks concerned about my vote, thank you for your concern. I’m not too worried about it for several reasons. You can check online to see when your ballot is received and accepted, so I’ll be doing that. If it isn’t accepted in the next week or so I’ll definitely be making some calls. Worse comes to worse, I can always go to my polling place on the day and get a provisional ballot in case something happens to my mail-in. I live in a pretty blue area so I have some trust in the local offices here; they’ve given no reason for me to be suspicious. Nonetheless I’ll still be double checking.

For me it’s because I’m not convinced LLMs are really a stepping stone to any actual AI. They don’t have educational applications imo because there isn’t any way they can separate truth from fiction. They don’t understand the words that they output; they’re just predictive text generators on a huge scale. This isn’t something that can change with better tech either; it’s baked in to the very concept of an LLM. And worse, when they are wrong there’s no way to tell without already knowing the answer to the questions you’re asking. They’re literally just monkeys with typewriters. This is an extremely good article about the kinds of problems I’m taking about.

Nah, they’re resistant to that because their whole engine is fueled with hate. They have persecution and victim complexes. Calling them weird actually seems to affect them because their whole thing is parading around as if they’re the party for “average” aka “normal”_(white) Americans.

I think it’s like an old school Georgian (the US state) accent. I have family from that area that sound exactly like that. I don’t have a problem understanding it for that reason but i could totally see not knowing wtf he’s saying. Just wanted to say there are indeed people that sound like that in case people thought it was just a British person putting on a bad southern accent.

That’s not how acronym pronunciation works though. We don’t pronounce them based on the words they stand for, otherwise we would pronounce NASA, SCUBA, LASER, etc. differently. Both pronunciations have valid arguments so why can’t we just accept both and stop being weird about it.
