I kinda get it. Boeing may just be trying to improve their image but they’re doing it during an active investigation. Considering just how little they’ve cared in the past this may an attempt to garner sympathy from the public before everything is done.

The good people would probably either not want to waste their time hurting people or they would get tired of it very quickly(we ain’t all perfect). Like if Trump died I’d be elated but it’s because he would no longer be poisoning the world with his presence and not because I personally want to beat his face in for eternity.

To be honest I think the hell I would want for these people would be a forced injection of critical thinking skills and empathy, with mandatory classes on all of the harm they did, so they could ultimately be their own punishment. At that point the most participation I would want would be my turn explaining how they people hurt me and the people I care about.

I remember, and maybe I misunderstood, when he was up against Biden last time and the biggest issue he had was that Elizabeth Warren’s similar message split votes. She was clearly losing but for some reason stayed in and siphoned votes away from him just long enough for him to back out.

More people wanted either Sanders or Warren than wanted Biden but ya’ll ended up with Biden. We have the same problem here in Canada where more vastly more people hate the Conservatives than support them and yet that party always ends up dangerously close to gaining power.

That’s really the kind of organizational skillset that’ll get things done. /s

Even with their fear-mongering and everything I will never understand why the right keeps electing the kind of people who refuse to show any level of qualification. Like ok, you hate taxes and think that corporations should have the right to poison your waterways, but why are you electing the blatant liars and fraudsters who can’t even seem to put their pants on the right way ‘round? At least go for someone who seems to have some level of skill.

My dad blames our Prime Minister for inflation as if it’s not a global crisis and as if Canada isn’t among the top ten countries in the world when it comes to mitigating the effects of inflation.

Does your dad have hobbies or anything? I find the ones most ready to start making shit up seem to be the ones who just work until they go home and then do basically nothing once they get there. Such little interaction with the rest of the world isn’t healthy.

These far-right and otherwise insane ideologies need misinformation to work. Even with the ability to spread it being greater these days it’s also way to easy to doublecheck them with a solid level of confidence and they struggle to be consistent even amongst themselves. They still have power and we can’t get complacent but it sure could be a lot worse.

When two workers started working from home I heard a manager say “how am I supposed to know they’re getting work done?” as if he couldn’t see the results all appear on the server. And he never even really spoke to them when they were in the office anyway! Meanwhile I’m a “hard worker” while in my office watching four hours of Critical Role a day bored out of my skull because I finished all the work already. I tried to get more to do but my direct manager/senior coworker was too paranoid to let me touch anything else even though he was insanely overworked.

Oh and the dipshit manager spent at least an hour if his day talking conservative nonsense with another employee. Like, bro, get a fucking clue.

Personally I’m excited that we kinda are hitting the reset button. It absolutely isn’t a guarantee but it’s closer than it’s ever been to working.

Capitalism is the attempt to keep feudalism going and it’s collapsing in on itself. With the speed that technology now moves within a person’s lifetime we can see how the usual tricks just don’t work as well. We’ve also got baseline regulations keeping things like lead out of the air and giving at least some basic human rights to people who historically would be kicked around by even the better societies. Rightwing parties are stronger and meaner because they’re afraid but their bases shrink even with the normally unifying nationalist rhetoric being pushed. Fuck even Israel is finally being told off and Hamas is being treated far closer to rebels than terrorists which, considering all the precedent set, is pretty extra wild!

We are moving forward. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t people fighting to hold us back but it’s happening anyway and will continue to happen so long as we keep standing up for ourselves.

As someone whose job is drafting and whose being is overly-perfectionist I hate them and hope they bump their head hard enough to knock some damn sense into that empty cavity.

And it’s stressful as hell because they keep shaping the world around them to be worse, too. Canada’s got too many wannabe republicans and it’s starting to really piss me off.

Oddly enough, mid and high density areas aren’t just for big cities. I know that’s not how North America handles things when it comes to medium-sized cities and small towns but absolutely you can create more efficient towns and living situations even away from large city centers.

The biggest thing that really put it well for me is someone pointing out that frontier towns, or really any town before the car, weren’t spread out just because the population was lower and they had the space. Everything had to be walkable because that’s the only way you could get around; it was human-scaled. There’s no reason we can’t build like that today to create better, stronger cities even when they’re “small”.

Heck where I grew up if you’re lucky enough to live closer to the actual village and not sequestered away in one of the residential-only suburbs you don’t even need a car for your basic life. For commuting yes because we’re not there yet as a society but you can do a lot of stuff in the village as it and the nearby housing was built before the car. Where I live now in Montréal I can happily say that if you dropped my 15min city/borough onto a patch of land by itself you’d need very few modifications to make it a fully functioning city all on its own. I have never felt like people in my mid-density area “live on top of one another”, either, despite literally having upstairs neighbours.

My point is that you don’t need to sprawl and make driving a requirement at any scale. You can make a town of 500 people just as close and connected as a city of 1mil people.

But sure if you want it: Drivers or not, free parking and the driving incentive it provides are massive drains on the taxpayers. It’s a net-negative. The fuckcars crowd can back everything with historical examples, studies, and all manner of hard evidence and the people that don’t even know how many cylinders their cars have only have embarrassing outrage. Of course they’re annoyed, car-centric infrastructure is actively hurting everyone and not a scrap evidence shows that it’s truly beneficial for literally anyone save for incredibly niche cases that aren’t ever what anyone is talking about. You should be pissed.

The rules are “make anyone above you feel good about themselves because they’ll throw a hissy fit if you don’t make them feel special.” It’s pathetic and I’m tired of it.
