  • That could be part of the calculation.

The irony of this is that propping up the Liberals in the previous term was supposed to pull the focus Left to progressive policies and bring legitimacy to the NDP as a party that is able to govern.

They succeeded on the first but have apparently failed on the second to the point where the Liberals have gotten all the credit (or blame, depending on your point of view).

Now we’re all set to see the same movie in this term.

It might not be clear on what are Carney’s intentions vs the backroom bargains that will be required for the NDP support this time around. But if he surrounds himself with the old Liberal guard as Trudeau did, I would encourage everyone to remember that the Liberal party has a very long history of saying one thing and doing another and that other thing isn’t always in the collective best interests of Canadians. This is why I don’t mind the dependency on the NDP.

  • For Canadians who may be concerned about data privacy, especially US-based companies that may be subject to giving access to the US government under the US Patriot Act and/or Cloud Act, it might be worth the time to write some politicians for action.

There’s PIPEDA for federal level, as mentioned in the article, and there’s municipal level too. Most major cities have by-laws that govern Vehicles-for-Hire.

I’m not sure what they can do about this issue, but it’s worth raising the concern with your councillor in addition to your MP.

  • I’m coming back to add another request idea:

    Ability to search Saved posts.

I save a lot of useful things on Lemmy but it’s difficult to find again later. You can’t search Saved Posts in this app nor on the website and you can’t set up an RSS feed like on Reddit to get the articles/posts out to somewhere else.

Even if you know the precise title of the post, general search on Lemmy almost never brings it up in the results.

I think Voyager could certainly help compensate for this shortcoming in Lemmy.

  • Bandcamp.com

You can listen to the tracks, ad-free, get recommendations below the album listing (maybe other ways too), buy DRM-free and support the artists better than any streaming service would be willing to.

If you do go local library and are looking for recommendation algorithm, Apple Music (the app, not the streaming service) sells DRM-free as well and has the Genius function that will group songs based on similar preferences. However, I don’t believe it will pull in recommendations outside your own library. Worth checking.

  • One of favourite apps!

    Two requests:

    1. Ability to open shared Lemmy URLs in Voyager, via share sheet to the app, iMessage extension maybe too, and clipboard recognition once in the app although this might have privacy issues I suppose. My family sends a lot of Lemmy links via iMessage and it’s annoying having to load the page, tap the image, close the tab after and return to iMessage to comment. I remember Apollo having something better with this.
    2. Block community on a post from an All, Local or Home feed. Right now you have to tap into the sub/community and then tap ellipses to get the block function.

Another thing is better search but I believe Voyager might be doing the best that it can right now compensating for the terrible search in Lemmy. And that terrible search might also be a byproduct of the federated instances (sync time, different restrictions, etc) which I guess is an acceptable trade-off for now if so.
