131·9 hours agoFor a personal server, just buy a liquidated office/business workstation and add storage as needed. Probably will still be cheap since the win10 EOL has led a bunch of those machines onto auction sites.

16·3 days agoAs a tip from someone who also used to host game servers on Linux mint (and now Ubuntu server), you will save yourself so many headaches if you use an open-source container program like Pterodactyl Panel. Even if a game isn’t officially supported (like 7 days to die), someone’s already made a community script for the game that can be imported in 4 or so clicks.
Trust me, it’s a hell of a lot better than the manual option on Windows or Linux for games XD

301·3 days agoYep, someone already joked that they picked 4 digits for their username so they have a failsafe for getting banned 9,998 times. That was at 0004.
If you look at their chat history it really explains it all tbh. I wonder if we could get this instance to defederate their account haven.
In that case, I guess that potential vector is moot. Although it could be that data wasn’t available until recent training of the weights.

Unfortunately it’s not that simple. At least that’s the message I got from reading Librewolf’s documentation out of curiosity.

Thing is, at the scale that a home server is likely to be providing, you don’t really need an upgrade at all for any of the components except storage and maybe a 2.5gig ethernet card depending on services available.
Also, like the other commenter said: SSDs. SATA ones (unless you have free PCIE lanes then use an m.sata adapter board).
