Not “could”, it has. The spring planting season is ending. The effect may not have shown up yet, but famine and recession are already baked in. Mostly in Africa and Asia.

Antarctica is a continent, you can’t send a sub underneath it. Ran discovered previously unseen structures beneath the Dotson Ice Shelf in West Antarctica.
The Arctic is covered in floating ice, you can send subs under it. Well, it’s covered at the moment, climate change is working on changing all that.

But my doctor has a halo and a saint like demeanor, so which one should I pick.

I just realized you are from lemmy.ml.
Fuck off tankie!!!

RTFA or live with your delusions, the choice is yours.

"One driver for doctors participating in these overseas programs is fear. Employed publicly whether at home or abroad, many doctors fear reprisal for refusing to participate in these programs. Sometimes given bonuses, many feel the pay will benefit them and their families while overseas or upon their return, even if marginally. This is often weighed against the possibility of a loss of work and wages, or further reprisal, for refusing to participate.
When overseas, the fear does not dissipate. Many face exile for speaking out about poor pay or conditions. This threat hung over many that participated in the Brazilian exchange, after doctors went to court to sue to be treated as contractors able to earn an entire paycheck and work independently, rather than as employees of the Cuban state. This put them at risk of temporary or permanent exile, with no viable alternative for citizenship or way to connect with their families. This also put any wages they had earned in jeopardy for them and their families. "

The point is you get to decide which of those to do or not to do. You can renounce your citizenship and apply for it in another country. You can move to a state that doesn’t have those tax requirements. And none of those add up to 90% of your wage.
This is not a discussion about where it’s cheapest to work, from a tax perspective. It’s about the fact that the cubans don’t have a choice, while a citizen of the USA or Canada or the EU or UK do have choices. Nobody is holding our families hostage so we will behave.

I used 37% as the max for high earners. The reality could be anywhere from zero to more. Depending on how much you severe your ties and which of the 50 states you resided in, plus the country you work in has a say. Unlike Cuba a US citizen can choose what they want to do. Florida for instance has no state income tax. I thought these points were obvious, but evidently not. Bless your little heart.

USA tax rate maxes out at 37% and then only if you make over $626,351.
Cuba takes 75 to 90% and forces them to not talk about their situation.

what bullshit. The cuban doctors aren’t allowed to leave the Cuba unless they sign a contact giving the cuban government most of their wages. They aren’t volunteers, they are slaves.

Is anyone even remotely surprised? Money is all that motivates both republican and democratic parties.

In their defense, these “live action” movies look ai generated. Maybe they just assumed it was all fake and decided to join in.

You know this is about filling the ranks with loyalist. Then invoking the insurrection act to stop the mid term elections.

“The prime minister sought to assure Australians it was still business as normal but said workers should consider taking public transport to conserve fuel supplies for those who didn’t have the option.”
Is he really this stupid???
I’m in the usa, and I even know there are already extensive fuel shortages in Australia. Mostly due to Australia’s refusal to keep the required 90 strategic reserve or have any refineries.
PS: Yes I know this is all trump’s fault, but Australia and New Zealand seem to have just refused to prepare for the inevitable.

That is exactly the picture I flashed on when I wrote the comment. I’ve always wondered why they took the cabin prisoner. Probably because they didn’t want it to become an object of hero worship.
Or it Is an scp, and anyone who lives there becomes the Unabomber. Secure, Contain and protect.

And being reasonable people, they chose not to believe him.

And do what exactly???
Iran has a thousand miles of coast line, it’s a huge rugged, mountainous country. Also trump is letting Iran oil tanker leave unmolested, and they are returning laden with munitions, again unmolested. We aren’t even blockading them. WTF are ground troops supposed to do.
The best theory I’ve heard so far is that trump doesn’t want the war to end, because he is using it like the tariffs last year with the TACO trade, to make insider trades in the stock and futures markets. He is literally killing US troops and Iranian children just to make money.

but if he was just a peaceful crank on the street corner holding a sign people would have ignored him. Nobody listened till the bombs went off. And when he was caught all they did was make fun of his cabin. Personally I thought it was a nice cabin in a nice location.
The point you’re missing is that at the weapons makers have the profit margins to bribe trump and the republicans. If the poor people want their needs met, they are going to have to make a more substantive monetary offering. The president is too busy to consider something so insubstantial as the needs of the voters, unless it comes engraved on bars of gold. And yes that’s “bars” plural.
“replace imported oil and gas with homegrown energy.” if they had home grown energy available they would already be using it.
You can’t just plant a windmill just anywhere, and the same goes for hydro and solar. It has to be where the wind blows, the water flows and the sun shines. Kind of like the fifth element. China has coal to oil conversion, but they have been exploiting coal for so long they are running low. And as much as I like electric transportation, it can’t run a farm tractor, or 18 wheeler at the scale they need it.
