2·9 小时前Well, after “Daria is basically von Neumann except better because lesbian and also survives Godzilla”, I obviously have no shame in that regard. Though the most explicit sneering I have done in that medium was “Shinji Ikari and the Methods of Rationality”.
A bit of the non-fictional science in the aforelinked book has actually ended up in the novel I am currently 17K words into redux-ing, so we’ll see how that goes…

11·19 小时前Thus writes Mike Taylor:
I’m a published author lol. I still write some stuff myself but I wouldn’t have time to write everything I want to without AI.
Hey, I’m a published author too! From one published author to another, why don’t you take a long fuck off a short pier?

6·21 小时前The “Your Mileage May Vary” page even gets in a sneer!
Derailing: He has a habit of going down the list of tvtropes fanfic recommendations and leaving reviews on ff.net exclaiming how amazing it is that the author’s story is just as or almost as good as his own writing while dropping his story’s name. He probably reads these stories but considering that in roughly 30% of these reviews he quotes lines of these stories out of context in order to draw false parallels to his philosophies, he may simply be skimming them.
Yea verily, he is almost as smooth at this as I am at inserting references to The Romance of T’Lyn and Beckett Mariner.

So innovative, it even has a fandom!

It reads like the overwrought, misaimed, indulgent clunkiness that I produced around age 15. Except slimier. At least what I wrote at age 15 had science is awesome! at its core, rather than science is broken, follow my methods to become
ClearRational instead.
And here’s a relevant Reddit thread about how HPMoR was even worse when first posted.

12·9 天前Years ago, I wrote a science-fiction murder mystery novel. One of the plot threads was about the invention of AI, in the Data-from-Star-Trek kind of sense. I’ve been spending the past few days planning how to rip out that whole notion and replace it with a subplot about a different scientific discovery. I’ve been writing scenes to get back the old character voices and figure out how they might have changed, and to sketch new fictional science based on the actual science I’ve learned since my first go-around. This is after several weeks of binge-writing fanfiction, which I wholly endorse as a recreational activity. I don’t know if I’m a better writer, but I’m definitely one who has written more words.
So, that might be keeping me busy. Of course, I’ll still be around to ban people who deserve it and to cruelly mock them in the process.

6·10 天前Even supposing the technology worked as advertised—and that’s very much a supposition arguendo, one that flies in the face of the facts—it’s hard for me to think of any mathematical discovery that would be worth the cost of the AI industry. How many people in Memphis would I give respiratory cancer in order to prove the Riemann hypothesis? Zero, you absolute fuckers.

I cut YouTube out of my life a year ago, briefly returned for idle entertainment like cooking shows, and then gave it up again. Even before all that, I was generally ignorant of who YouTube-famous people were.
