Kinda like how they force you to learn about other religions and cultures in history class. It’s confusing for the children

I’m pretty sure I live in a city between you and Dearborn but I don’t want to say the names and dox us. I just thought it was fun to piece together with the few clues and my familiarity with the area
Dutch Sheets has to be the worst god damn name I’ve ever heard
America has been a meat grinder the whole time and never really represented any of the things we claim it did. All men were created equal but slavery and genocide were fine? If anything we’re closer to that ideal now than we ever have been
I thought the F 35 was kind of a flop. Not doubting you. I don’t keep up with modern military stuff (more of sword nerd) and I just remember hearing it was a money pit
It’s weird that high rate of fire and large magazine capacities aren’t mentioned because that is by far the deadliest aspect of modern firearms. Hand guns have both of those and are responsible for much more violent crime. Muzzle velocity, range, and accuracy describe most hunting rifles. I’d rather someone shoot 1 round of 50 cal per second from a 5 round magazine than 10 rounds of 9mm per second from a 30 round magazine.
Not German enough, needs more unnecessary capital letters
These restaurants keep my cousins’ reclaimed wood furniture business alive.
The IDF must really love killing Palestinians. They can’t even stop for a few days. They need an intervention
I was born in America and had to do absolutely nothing to be better off than at least 3 billion people. I’m very lucky and this system is completely unfair
It’s from one of them Laconian magnetar-class battleships
It comes from Latin iactare meaning “to cast”. Over time the c was dropped as French evolved and the i shifted to a y consonant and we get yeter. Once it was borrowed into English it further changed as the -er was dropped and short e became a long ee following the great vowel shift.
I am lying but most of those bits are facts and I’m actually describing the etymology of jet. Also the proto Indo European ye is hilariously uncanny.
I feel this whole case is everything wrong with the justice system (aside from him actually facing consequences). A corrupt cop with a history of violence gets attacked in an overpopulated and understaffed prison where folks are punished instead of rehabilitated.
I missed sad Keanu. The one where they photoshoped the pigeon in hand gets me every time
I’ve been away awhile but I haven’t been using reddit either which is probably the best outcome tbh
Gendered articles probably not but having “a” vs “the” removes the need for additional cases (eg. I/me/my). Latin and Russian don’t have articles but they have more cases which have different suffixes that have to be applied to all nouns. Usually simplifying one part of language makes another part more complex. English has a very simple case structure but the word order is much more strict
That’s the subreddit I miss the most. Some of the best history content on the web
And how did we get Finnish from Suomi?
Edit: I missed the other comment with the answer. Once again it was Romans
I’m on a similar journey and have started self-hosting as many services as I can. I’ve got Jellyfin (open source Plex alternative), a WebDAV server to replace google drive, a Valheim server, and a git server to host the code. I’m doing this with kubernetes on an old mini PC I picked up for 50 bucks on eBay. I plan to put more mini PCs in my friends’ and family’s homes to build a cloud for us with backups of everything stored in multiple locations. It’d be cool to pass it down to the next generation and have our family memories preserved in a medium we own completely.
