🤣 But according to that documentary, nearsightedness should die out, because the people that sit in dark rooms and read books all night instead of fucking around don’t procreate. So we might become idiots, but at least idiots without glasses.

Seriously though, why hasn’t nearsightedness been fixed by evolution yet. It seems like a simple thing to fix (just make the eyeball a bit shorter) and a huge evolutionary disadvantage if you can’t distinguish a gnu running away from a sabretooth running towards you.

3·4 months agoI will just leave this recent study here:
Sorry for the German, here’s a translation of the abstract:
German Environmental Aid (DUH) proves: HVO100 from used cooking oil is more harmful to the climate than fossil diesel
• New study commissioned by DUH: HVO100 and “bio” diesel from used cooking oil are even more harmful to the climate than fossil diesel, taken as a whole from production to consumption.
• Promises of almost 90 percent CO2 savings refuted, as shifting effects boost climate-damaging palm oil production.
• DUH calls on the German government to stop the use and promotion of HVO100 from used cooking oil in road transport.

9·4 months agoWe’ve got a new, conservative government in Germany since the beginning of 2025, replacing a (more or less) progressive one. The green party is no longer part of the government. We can elect stupid politicians all by ourselves, we don’t need the USA for that.
Is North Korean media part of that “Propaganda Multiplier”?
Every adapter I had was broken after a year or less. I imagine if you keep them attached to your phone, they’ll break even faster. Do these adapters exist with a 90° angle which might help preventing broken cables?
Not really in the spirit of reducing waste.
Is it really “Cause Jesus he knows me and he knows the time”!? I’v always misheard the lyrics 🤯

31·8 months agoSo it really is an alternative to Amazon in all regards:
- Selling cheap crap from china to overblown prices
- Giving money to people who have too much already
- Using that money to influence the politics in favour of the richest
I just hope they also have shitty customer service and handle their employees like shit so they can replace the big A.
It doesn’t taste like piss. Piss is salty and bitter, or sweet and mild depending on what you drank and ate earlier and depending on your health status. American beer always tastes like nothing. 🥇🚿
I used Astra Superior blades, but you made me look up where they’re from and it seems they come from Russia 😞
There is also Mühle from Germany but I don’t know if they’re good. Also, they are more than twice as expensive (26ct instead of ~10ct).
Good that I still have 80 blades here so I don’t have to worry for another year or two.

0·9 months agoSuSE was a blessing for me in the 1990s when you couldn’t just download huge amount of data over the Internet. But I could walk into my local computer store and buy a 8 CD package with two big handbooks for 70 Deutschmarks.
Long story short: Without SuSE I might not be a software developer today, so I’m thankful even though I prefer other distros today. 🦎

1·10 months agoTo translate single words, I’d suggest you use a real dictionary, as they tend to provide much more options and a bigger nuance. Also the option to quickly translate the suggestions back again to see what the nuanced meaning is, helps a lot. I use leo.org for that.
If you know the language , but not the specific word, I suggest a single language dictionary such as the OED
And if I’m translating from my native language into a foreign one, the"other languages" link in Wikipedia has often helped me. Especially for technical terms it helps a lot to find the correct native page first. For example, a normal dictionary wouldn’t be too helpful to find out that a Hund in German is called a derail in English.

Never having existed, that’s the ultimate form of damnation. Or maybe it’s a blessing, who knows.
