Downdetector was down again for a while. The main news site in Hungary wasn’t, seems like they got rid of cloudflare completely after the last outage.

Parrot 🦜 is french and they should have something similar
I get the FOMO about having their own AI, but in my books making Drive usable and having a Linux app for drive would be way higher on the priority list. Get the basics right first.

5·5 months agoThis price point makes me wonder what the purpose is: do they really have such a large user base that their 1 EUR/year subscription will add significant funds to develop the app further? I doubt. In which case the only effect will be to lose users who refuse to pay. Disclaimer: I use their app for navigation and I quite like it

6·7 months agoWell I know for medium and large companies it may not be easy, depending on what cloud services they currently use. But for micro and small companies, that use cloud storage, and maybe some virtual machines in the cloud, there is no excuse. A Linux VM is a Linux VM no matter whether it is hosted on Aws or OVH cloud

Can I run a bash script before I configure Ubuntu when I start it first time? I couldn’t find, but maybe I missed it. If I configure it, then run my script and then clone, the clone will inherit the user, language etc settings which I don’t want

Buy European@feddit.uk•Should we start a Citizens EU Countries Initiative to make the european FOSS alternatives the default in the EU public administrations systems software stack?
9·7 months agoThe aim of the initiative would be to express to the EU commission the citizens desire to become less dependent on the big tech companies. I appreciate the complexity you mention, but it would be the commission to work out what is achievable or not. My view is that everything is, it’s just the question of timeframe. There are areas, e.g. my school example, that would be easier to transform, other areas as you say more difficult. But we need to drive this and keep on the pressure, otherwise nothing will change. It’s already great to see that we are talking about it

Buy European@feddit.uk•Should we start a Citizens EU Countries Initiative to make the european FOSS alternatives the default in the EU public administrations systems software stack?
37·7 months agoYes, but extend it to school education as well. Governments are spending millions if not billions to purchase laptops with Windows for schools. Why can’t we teach our kids the basic digital skills on Linux? If their first experience is with Linux, they will stick to that.
Sorry I thought it was the same. I think I came across this before and it seemed a bit too complex for my level but I will give it another go
Thanks - I will give this a go if I can’t find a solution for customizing without firing up the os
Yes, this is what I use to flash the image to the SD card. The issue is that I want to change the official image before flashing and that is where I’m stuck

BuyFromEU@feddit.org•Equal opportunity for Linux - let us choose at the checkout what operating system we want for our laptopEnglish
1·7 months ago“No OS” will not make it to the average internet user, which is 99% of the population. If they have to select, they will select windows. The remaining 1% will figure it out, but that 1% won’t make any impact. We need a model that would pave the way for Linux to the average internet user.

BuyFromEU@feddit.org•Equal opportunity for Linux - let us choose at the checkout what operating system we want for our laptopEnglish
2·7 months agoThe issue is that 99% of people don’t want to install an OS, they just want to have a computer that they can use as is. I’m not saying my proposal would be ideal, but something needs to change in the current model otherwise in 10 years time we will still be whining about Microsoft’s 90% market share

Hungarian here. I hate Orbán. But calling anyone and everyone a fascist just because you don’t like her/him is turning this platform a joke
