I’d rather strive for the better and look for copyfarleft licenses
ex_06@slrpnk.netto Buy European@feddit.uk•/r/buyfromEU "Europe keeps building social apps no one wants", "No "pick your fediverse server,” no confusion. It’s one big centralized thing, and that’s part of why posts can go viral"9·3 months agoI agree with some of the points of the original thread:
- having Twitter clone or Instagram clone but decentralized kinda sucks no matter how you put it and it’s probably not mass sustainable
On the other hand… Lemmy is just a forum that can connect to other forums. You don’t find cool subreddits searching for them, the good ones are the ones recommended by other people, usually not by search. The fediverse actually suffers from having a big user base that wants Reddit/twitter/insta but decentralized instead of having small forums/microblogs connected to each other. Also the reason why you see me often advocating for less “generalized instances” and wanting more vertical focused ones. This is easily possible with lemmy dividing by topic and with mastodon dividing by localization.
If you want the fedi to thrive, build lemmy instances focused on being a stand alone forum first and mastodon ones focused on being local first (same for mobilizon)
Ye I was not finding it but it’s probably because maybe without federation the setting doesn’t pop up :)
I’m gonna quote myself from another comment

ex_06@slrpnk.netto Proton @lemmy.world•Better than ever: the new Proton Drive 2.0 for macOS | ProtonEnglish53·3 months agoY’all need to learn to read between the lines
Maybe y’all need to stop reading different cases always with the same lens.
Altman is a social climber and even if he is playing to kick out all the people against him, openai is still a no profit. They probably will manage to change but it’s such a different scenario. ChatGPt is the golden goose of the moment in their eyes, no one will give billions and billions of euro to proton just to enshittify
If you think some bad takes make a person, again I think you are the one who should read between the lines and using less the cynism lens

That’s the thing, they are a foundation. Proton is now fully owned by a foundation…

Bro stop with this mindset
The world is not so simple and people cannot even imagine the amount of stuff Orban chooses on a daily basis. It would surprise me even if a single voter was aware and agreed on every single thing Orban does and says honestly.
This applies to every representative democracy obviously.

Gandi got sold 2 times
Basically the company went from “no bullshit” to “just another asset for some capitalist fund who only cares about extracting as much value as possible”
It would be so good to have a no profit owned or cooperative European domain seller
ex_06@slrpnk.nettoLemmy Support@lemmy.ml•Federation not working properly in my community?English3·4 months agobut wakest was answering to that comment, so i think it’s right to not be federated on lemmy if the parent is not
The filter is being a pet peeve of mine too these days
I would like to be sure that I’m filtering stuff but looks like filters on miniflux and freshrss just work on future articles so I should do something like put a filter to an rss feed I control and then post and check if it works
ex_06@slrpnk.nettoLemmy Support@lemmy.ml•Federation not working properly in my community?2·4 months agoOk i took the time to write from my masto under that post and it did show also on Lemmy
I’d say it’s something about either lemmy.ml or mastodon.social or both
The mastodon instance I use is on 4.3.5, mastodon stable looks 4.3.6 and mastodon.social is on 4.4.0-nightly…

ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times62·4 months agoWe can agree to disagree for the tweets but I’m not sure that I agree on the part about throwing a good organization built on solid principles because of one person tbh. Yes he is not a random employee but on the foundation board there are also people like Tim Berners Lee…
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times222·4 months agoYe and if they owned servers they would need to pay electricity and internet connections to some capitalistic operators
If they had even solar panels they’d still buy them from capitalistic companies
If they even owned solar panel production they’d still buy materials from capitalistic mines
If they’d also buy the mines they’d now need some form of army to defend them or they’d need to pay some capitalistic mercenaries company
You understand that we have to start somewhere, right?
the second they don’t have enough donations to pay the bills the messenger will seize working
It’s a bit like worrying about donations to Wikipedia or the internet archive honestly. They are so big that probably a lot of people would stop them from failing.
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times914·4 months agoThe situation in the US makes pretty clear what fascism is and who Trump fans are
2 tweets in which he said that the republicans could help small tech are definitely not enough to be called either (fascist or Trump fan) imho
But it’s not a hill I’d die on. Still a foundation, still not easily sold to a random rich guy, still other members on the board and so on. Opinions are opinions but facts are here to stay and I can trust that organization still much more than others even if one person of the board went crazy. Organizations over single people ftw
‘‘about’’ is usually always ‘‘about us’’ innit?
btw on the homepage you also got screenshots
the thing is, bonfire is not a single software like mastodon or lemmy, ideally is more like wordpress for platforms
