Yep, one cafe in Kyoto said that they were by reservation only and I’d have to come back the next day. The entire cafe was empty except for one Japanese couple. Was immediately obvious what was going on.

Although even if revealed with a translation app, I still wouldn’t want to eat there, because why reward xenophobia.

Games@sh.itjust.works•What game did you hate even after sinking a lot of time into it?English
2·2 days agoI like it for some of the reasons you don’t. I can play it kinda on autopilot, without giving it my full attention. When cooking for example. I can also play it when I don’t have much mental energy left. It’s cute and often funny. And especially in some of the later titles I enjoy the positive vibes, which, even though it’s a game, it can be nice to hear someone say something nice about me. So I am usually in a better mood from laughing and feeling more positive after playing it.

There are many reasons people choose not to vote and it’s not the one you gave. I’m very glad I don’t live in a place like Australia where I’m forced to vote for someone that doesn’t represent my values. By voting for a candidate I am saying that I endorse them and what they will do. I’m partly responsible for what happens if they’re elected. Usually no candidate on the ballot comes even close to meeting those criteria. And you might argue that’s not what voting for a candidate means. But that’s definitely how it’s received. Think about it: if you knew someone voted for Trump twice you’d immediately assume they’re hardcore MAGA. To you there’s only one acceptable answer, one acceptable opinion. Someday maybe you’ll realize the world is extremely complex, that you’ve been living in a bubble, that you meant well but were lied to. The lesser of two evils is still evil and does evil things. Voting becomes a lot harder when you own the consequences.

He’s not eligible to run for president for a third term, so he’s not going to be on a presidential ballot. Maybe he’ll get a handful of write-in votes, but that’s about it. I suppose he could run for another office in Congress, or Governor or such, but I just don’t see it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Stock in Freefall After Disastrous Earnings ReportEnglish
1·6 days agoCurrently it’s cheaper to road trip on gas than electric, mainly because NACS supercharging is so expensive, currently around $0.70/kWh for non-Teslas at superchargers. Once the CCS chargers start converting to NACS prices will hopefully fall due to competition. Also gas prices seemed destined to go up more and once they climb to the mid $5’s, electric pulls ahead again. An EV still makes sense overall because for most people most driving is not going to be road trips and so slightly higher costs for a road trip are going to be more than paid for due to local driving but unfortunately right now road trips are not a strength of EVs.
Trump is term limited.

The placebo effect is scientific and real. It’s so well established that when they are testing medicines they test them against placebo and track the placebo healing rates, because the drug needs to statistically heal better than the placebo healed.
