I raise you a quick SQL query. Admittedly I’m a data engineer but I hate graphical tools that abstract code away from me.

Genuinely what do you need in excel you can’t do anywhere else? For me sheets are just glorified visual data storage. If I need to do complex stuff I can probably do it faster in polars or pandas than I can in excel

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck lead reveals Valve is funding ARM compatibility of Windows games “to expand PC gaming” and release “ultraportables” in the future
10·2 days agoArm Steamdeck? Sign me up! Arm on Linux ftw. I also have high hopes for the snapdragon x elite 2 to finally push me off macOS. Tangent on that I saw some reddit thread (yeah yeah reddit) and it mentioned that x elite 2 might support dgpus everyone said “but why though”? Well the answer is so that you can disable it and have killer battery life and then just enable it later for performance. Why wouldn’t everyone want that?

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Gaming Exec Says That "Gen Z Loves AI Slop"
11·6 days agoHello Gen Z here no the fuck I don’t. I do ultimately think AI has some tiny modicum of value but absolutely is not worth the cost. Also fuck AI generated content specifically I could rant about that for ages. Also I really despise AI for making search engines worse. It now takes me multiple searches to find what I actually want and sometimes I have to prompt an llm just to find an article that’s helpful. Hell Reddit is the only useful place and that’s a hellscape of bots, nuked comments because of api protests and power hungry mods. So no I don’t like AI particularly much at all but especially not generative content.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Orion Browser for Linux (Webkit-based) Alpha available by end of year "if all goes well"
2·14 days agoReally im just waiting for ladybird. I use safari on my apple devices because of battery life and Zen on Linux and Mac devices for ublock and foss. I’m ngl every time I use a chrome based browser though I’m reminded how websites are supposed to work everything is about 1 billion times faster. I sure hope ladybird will allow me to finally not browser hop / hate my browser. There’s no need for new browsers that aren’t foss at this point.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Microsoft Warns That Windows 11 AI Might Install Malware On Your PC - KotakuEnglish
163·16 days agoPrivacy sure Linux has it beat. Security? Simply untrue, particularly by default, unless you put a lot of time into configuration, in not exactly sure where that narrative is from it’s completely false. macOS for example has way better app permission isolation that Linux does unless you use only flatpaks. Also the open source system scanner that gives devices a cybersecurity score that I’m forgetting the name of at the moment can be used to prove this correct without going into extremely long detail. Compare the results from macOS and Linux by default and it’s pretty solidly in macOS favor. I use both but this idea needs to stop being spread simply because people have a vendetta against closed source. I love Linux probably more than macOS but there are still reasons to like and use macOS.

1·16 days agoI’ve owned the m1 14 inch since it released it was definitely rougher at first but that’s not really true anymore. I’m not even sure I have any x86 applications on it at this point.
I mean I feel like the fediverse is already unappealing to the “normies” so we kind of have that already to some extent
I almost feel bad for all the other games lol. Especially silksong but hey I mean gang comes outta nowhere can’t do much about that.
Yep! Guess it’s time to fork!

Apple@lemmy.world•RIP Liquid Glass: September 15-November 3, 2025
3·28 days agoSheesh those are unacceptable issues for iOS devices at this point. Honestly if they even stopped for just one singular update to fix things or add what’s users want I’d be happy, but I guess you can just do it yourself on android so that’s part of the appeal. Linux is also great, maybe snapdragon x elite 2 will convince me to ditch my MacBook but hardware is too good. My desktop runs it and I generally have few problems but I’d really miss Logic Pro if I switched to Linux, tbh that’s my biggest hang up. Also I don’t think Linux has quite the security level as macOS does at least by default so I’d have to do some research into that. But yeah I tried graphene on a pixel 9 for a week and man I forgot what it was like to actually make the phone how you want, and actually like have swipe to type that works for once. I’m considering grabbing a pixel 10 pro while they’re on sale and waiting for graphene support, the MagSafe equivalence is a big feature for me personally.

71·28 days agoI’m ngl I don’t particularly care one way or another, but googles new material 3 expressive looks a lot better to me imo. That and the way Apple is heading with ads in maps and paying their big tech bribe money I think they’re getting Tim Cooked. It might be time for me to move to graphene.
Wait that’s awesome. Any chance that there’s a safari extension? I use safari and FF at home since I use both Linux and macOS
I’ll have to try neovim, and eMacs and all the derivatives. Honestly I just went straight to vim first because I wanted to try to OG experience first to see what it was like. I’ve also simultaneously been using vim mode in Zed which has been pretty nice too.

I’m in orange country currently so there aren’t any alternatives. It curve was here I’d probably be off iOS honestly. I genuinely use nfc payments that much that often that it’s a big necessity for me.

Yeah that’s fair. Many many many of my coworkers heavily rely on excel so I can understand this. I just really don’t like using it personally. It’s like vscode too much stuff thrown at me at once when I don’t need like 99%. Just let me write a script
