Yeah, no, it doesn’t make sense:
Der Mann (the man - male article)
Die Frau (the woman - female article)
Der Junge (the boy - male article)
Das Mädchen (the girl - neutral article)
Like, come on gendered articles, you had one job.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany: Bundeswehr ammo delivery ransacked by thievesEnglish
13·2 days agoI wonder what the military police was doing. When I was a conscript we had to accompany weapons and ammunition transports, even civil trucks. When the driver had breaks, we still needed to be around the truck.
I wonder whether that changed or if they were involved somehow in the “mishap”.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•CopyParty is kind of a great file serverEnglish
3·4 days agoAll config with docker is the same, so basically every service is kind of maintained and especially backuped the same.
Plus, config is just files. If the server is dead, copy volumes and compose files to new machines, two commands, all services up again. No difference in how to deploy some services.
Solar concentration is boiling some other liquid, so there’s some variance 😅

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What's if instead of a dead internet we end up with a dark forest internet
5·9 days agoRandom subdomain on wildcard certificate, IP written in the host file to mitigate DNS records, only given by word-to-mouth 😅.
Nobody said the uncrawled dark forest would be comfortable.

3·9 days agoBut there can be multiple websites behind one IP address?! They would not show when onhy accessing the IP. They would need to know about the domains somehow.

13·9 days agoBut an IP can have multiple websites and even not return anything on plain IP access. How do crawlers find out about domains and unlinked subdomains? Do they even?

31·9 days agoI always love how everything of the GDR is about the Stasi. Like, there was nothing else, only Stasi.
And still nobody connects the dots about what was bad about the Stasi with current techno-capitalism and its little brother chat control et al.
So, Stasi bad, but Stasi, pretending being about children, good, apparently.
I am a stay-at-home dad. The amount of people bewildered by that is bewildering 😅
But my wife gets more shit anyway, because now she’s apparently a really bad mother, who provides for her family 😅😅. bUt ThAt’S a MaN’s JoB.

2·10 days agoThat’s where Hanky comes from, if Santa is doing his poop brake in your house during his delivery run.
Well, another datapoint on “how cruel are Germans towards their children” is the Struwwelpeter story collection. Like, children get their thumbs cut off for sucking it or starving for not eating their soup etc.
So, I lean towards “if”. And, honestly, I remember understanding it like that as child 😅

Europe@feddit.org•Germany gets closer to mandating age assurance at OS levelEnglish
51·9 days agoWell, you overestimate the tech literacy of people by quite a large margin.
My sister reads an article about evil tech corpos every 6 months or so and then asks, how she ensures more privacy.
Then I tell her “OK, let’s install Firefox and ad-blocking as a first step, that is easy, does not affect your usage and does quite a lot already” and she’s immediately like “Ok, please stop your nerd talk, that is too much”.
She needs some one-click solution for stuff like that, otherwise she’s lost to what corpos deem best for “her” (i.e. their bottom line).

Unfortunately that is what every corpo wants. Like, you can’t establish brand recognition and brand loyalty early enough. Reap those sweet, sweet $$$ by getting kids addicted to your algorithms and shit.

1·16 days agoFeels a bit different to me though. I mean, while doped in sports it is still you who brings in the results. You can also take, idk, focus-enhancing drugs in esports to have the advantage (I wouldn’t, but I’ve never been very competitive and don’t get it in general). But cheating, like e.g. using aimbots, it detaches the results somehow from you. The equivalent, to me, in sports would be to have somebody go through all the hustle to get competitive and then pretend to be you, so you can get the cup and the pictures afterwards. Just strange ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
