  • It’s 100% the end goal. The shortage driving ram prices is to build data centers; it’s not just to hold LLM compute power but to centralize (meaningful) compute power.

Humans are powerful with open information, the ability to communicate, organize…better rip all that down and give consumers what they want; easily clickable funnels into your compute power, your data harvesting, your political and information control…it’s the techno fascist fantasy.

I’m shocked by the number of adults 20-40 who don’t own their own computer at home. Even when computers are dirty cheap in the US compared to their information, record keeping and economic vitality to modern living at ~$400-$1,000, tons of adults simply walked away from computing or never started it as smartphones were already here and were easy to slide into instead of having to learn.

Lemmy worries about windows users but I worry about people who don’t have ANY understanding of how special this moment in history has been when plebs had access to the same technology that oligarchs did (broadly). It’s historically an anomaly that the wealthy and powerful would like to correct. Literally the means of production.

  • I’ll catch you up; the only objection that ever existed was that it was a regressive (flat tax with very low income threshold) and inefficient way to fund what almost no one disagreed needed more funding. It was always about the “how”.

Instead of listening to the actual concerns, anyone who questioned it was labeled anti-education, anti-art and/or other inaccurate labels by stupid people who couldn’t comprehend that there are some critical pieces of adult life past “picking you ‘side’ and agreeing with it no matter what.”

Zero surprise it was also incompetently distributed.

  • The nice thing is, it makes it easy to identify anyone who doesn’t publicly stay they won’t do it now and get fired by Hesgeth, if they don’t do that, then they are absolutely selling their LLM models and data to trump without any safety or security restrictions as that drunk Hesgeth and Trump made clear this week.

Open ai? Gemeni? Not a peep from them about wanting to keep your rights safe and no complaints from Hesgeth means they sold your constitutional rights off.

  • Well not Anthropic anymore because they refused to be part of the surveillance apparatus for Trump and fascism. So they had their contracts revoked today.

  • The entire press release comes from the angle of students having accountability for peaceful protests but speaks not at all to the accountability of police to follow the constitution and other basic laws they have been shown repeatedly in countless jurisdictions to have less than admirable compliance with.

A neutral press release would have also included that the police are accountable for ensuring the rights of all citizens including minors and taking extreme prejudice against escalating to violence. That last part is key, as they have been shown repeatedly to not do so.

This school board is supporting an atmosphere where unnecessary escalations of violence is presented as the norm and where the two parties have unequal duty to the laws that govern interaction.
